Umm No. General Relativity's whole "mass distorts space time" thing kind of does explain what makes things move. As opposed to Newtonian physics that only mathematically (and inaccurately at stellar mass scales) predicted how things should move. That's not to say that through the Scientific Method we will not continue to learn new and interesting things. But GR does offer an explanation of what makes things move.

too broad a brush. I am an Engineer, and can tell you that many of us hold to scientific discipline in solving engineering challenges. We do this without being atheist, or while being atheist as the individual case may be. Wanting something to be true, really badly wanting something to be true, in the absence of good, confirmed, triple checked, data, can be deadly. But really, anyone, of any profession, who attributes the unknown/unexplained to (a) God, are not (should not claim to be) scientists.

that watches are not really all that complex. Nor do they ever evolve to better survive in a changing environment, or reproduce of their own accord. But (scientifically) the fact that we do not completely understand how something works does not mean that, a "God" must therefore have created it. I think DST is a crime against nature, a testament to human arrogance, and largely motivated by greed. Adding to the confusion are the "lines" on the map designating the various time zones. They often are determined by economic zones (we just have to be in the same zone as New York City) and are often not reflective of the natural day/night rhythm of local geography. Stop the madness!

every time "missing gap" is used to discuss/describe evolution. We will never find all relevant fossils. Most intermediate iterations were never fossilized in the first place. The "fossil record" can never be complete. All we can do with the infinitesimally small percentage of fossils we do discover is use them to confirm, or refute, the theory of evolution as it currently exists, and, perhaps, revise the theory as required to account for new discoveries and observations. Science!

Well...yes...and also maybe it's so far away that, at the speed of light, its electromagnetic calling card hasn't reached us yet...or isn't strong enough...or we aren't looking at the right spot in the sky...the odds of our detecting a signal are incredibly long.

the book was an homage to non-commissioned officers. The movie pretty much misses that aspect of the story.
