Submission + - Virtua Fighter 5 also announced for Xbox 360

Wowzer writes: "Sega today announced that their arcade fighting game Virtua Fighter 5, originally announced at E3 in May as a PS3-exclusive, will make its way onto the Xbox 360. From the article: "Virtua Fighter 5 is scheduled for release on Xbox 360 in North America and in Europe during late summer 2007. The game will also be available for the PS3 on February 20th, 2007 in North America and will be available in Europe simultaneously with the system's launch in March 2007." No new footage was revealed, as the official VF5 website is still showing the game only with a PS3 movie and screenshots."

Small Businesses Worry About MS Anti-Phishing 291

prostoalex writes "Ever get that warm feeling of safety, when the anti-phishing toolbar on Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 turns green, telling you it's safe to shop on the site you're visiting? Well, you probably don't, but the millions of Internet users who will soon be running IE7 probably will be paying attention to the anti-phishing warnings. WSJ.com is reporting on how Microsoft is making it tough for small businesses to assure they're treated properly by the anti-phishing algorithm." From the article: "[S]ole proprietorships, general partnerships and individuals won't be eligible for the new, stricter security certificates that Microsoft requires to display the color. There are about 20.6 million sole proprietorships and general partnerships in the U.S... though it isn't clear how many are engaged in e-commerce... 'Are people going to trust the green more than white? Yes, they will,' says Avivah Litan, an analyst at Gartner Inc. and an expert on online payments and fraud. 'All the business is going to go to the greens, it's kind of obvious.'"

Submission + - PS3 already loosing popularity

Dan Miller writes: "Even though it can't be bought in stores, the hype around the PS3 is fading. Ebay prices have fallen close to the actual retail value and websites raffling them away aren't selling any tickets. A game trading community that I recently joined (www.GameTraderWorld.com) is raffling a 60gb PS3 and they are reporting a 30% chance to win for $20 because no one bought any tickets. Here is the link to the story: http://www.gametraderworld.com/news.php?id=21"

Journal Journal: I need a good switchbox

I doubt anyone really needs this, but in case someone does ... any recommendations for a decent video switchbox? My new HDTV only has 3 HD inputs. The HDMI goes to the computer, so I can watch anime on the TV (I'm a big dork). One of the component inputs comes from the cable box (HD football, yummy!), and the other goes to a gaming system (right now 360 or PS2).

Just saw a pointer to an interesting article, and wanted to share this one with people.

Journal Journal: E3 Impressions

Overall E3 impressions so far ...

Sony: Ugh. Expensive! $600 for the premium is just crazy. I know Kutaragi said the PS3 would be costly, but still, it hurts just to see that number. The two SKU model is pretty stupid too. The $500 model is missing too many options. It'd be silly to buy that model, since any one upgrade (upgraded HD, WiFi adaptor, etc.) is probably going to be close to $100 anyway. Why not future-proof yourself for a $100 more?

Journal Journal: Bra ads... on Slashdot? 8

Just a quick note to say that I am utterly STUMPED why I'd be seeing Lane Bryant bra ads here on Slashdot. You want to talk about not hitting the target audience...

On a side note, I've just taken a new position here at Microsoft with a new team. I'll update about that soon, but it's definitely something I'm very excited about!

Journal Journal: Okay, FFXI sucks, back to DQVIII and WoW

Just got through the length FFXI install for the 360 beta. Man oh man did that suck. All of the pain was due to the stupid PlayOnline registration that you had to go through, and their ass-backwards UI. I feel like I can never complain about the 360 UI ever again, if the FFXI experience is the alternative I have to expect when game companies design their own online systems. I'm hoping Square sees the benefit of having Microsoft handle integration, letting them focus on what they do best: maki

Journal Journal: Got my 360 months ago ... so why am I playing DQVIII?

I'm a big Japanese RPG fan, so it's no surprise that I'm playing through Dragon Quest VIII. I happen to like it, although I can definately see some folks hating the game. Yeah, it's very old school (no "save spots" in dungeons, you actually have to spend time levelling up, very linear storyline, random battles, etc.), but for some reason, I still enjoy it. It reminds me a lot of playing Lunar and the earlier Wild Arms games.

Journal Journal: Journal Comments and 360

Doh. I think comments may have been set to disabled previously. Anyway, they're enabled now.

Can't wait ... less than a week before the 360 ships. If I didn't work in MGS, I wouldn't be that excited, as I didn't plan on picking up the system until it got a lot more games (especially RPGs). However, since MGS folks are getting a free systems ... woo hoo! I'm looking forward to playing some more Geometry Wars. :)

Journal Journal: An Experiment

So I've decided not to hide where I work anymore. Yes, I work at Microsoft, specifically in MGS (Microsoft Game Studios). I'm curious to see how that affects my karma and postings. Will everything by automatically be modded down (or up) simply because I happen to work at the "evil empire"?
