An OLD (skewl) notebook that has a real serial DB-9 connector for all those serial management console ports.

Or failing that, a brand name DB-9 to USB adapter (don't mess with the cheap ones, the good ones are not that much more $$)

I believe its geek appeal is derived from the fact that a software hack utilized to break the locks, rather than a physical set of lock picks.

There is also a sub-text about the social responsibility and obligation that manufacturers have to patch security holes found in their devices in a timely manner I suspect as well.

The last line is the worst: "Verizon argues that the rules amount to 'government compulsion to turn over [network owners'] private property for use by others without compensation."

In other words - handing over your private information to others would be OKAY if only Verizon got paid for it.

I'm sure that many decades ago when X-Rays were first introduced, they were also touted as being "completely safe" at the time as well... until we learned better. :(
Seems to me that human beings rush to realize the profit potential from their ideas, long before they fully evaluate any potential pitfalls that could arise from them...

But considering that tobacco industry has been selling a product that kills their customers for years and they're still in business, perhaps I have over-valued the importance of selling products that don't kill their consumers?!?! But in the mean time I'd personally rather not be a guinea pig for terahertz beams.
