Journal Journal: Overdrawn at the karma bank

Whoops.

I fired off a number of comments this morning, and my karma's now "Bad". I can't wait to see the moderation totals, since one comment has been all over the spectrum with the mod points wasted on it.

Alas, with "bad" karma, I can't Meta-Mod.

If any of y'all have some points, could you send 'em my way, once the stories are low on the front page (and therefore "out of mind" of the slashbots)? I'd be very grateful.

Yours in trolling,

Journal Journal: Yet more adventures in meta-mod! 2

I can't resist! This post, pertaining to the "Fyodor incident" got up-modded. I was given one of the up-mods in my latest meta-mod session.

By God, you can be sure I marked that sucker "Fair".

For more on Fyodor, read the journals of Real World Stuff and sllort . There's probably even more. CmdrTaco is deleting posts. He's a hypocritical ass.

For more on my endless talk of abusing the meta-mod system, see my previous journal entries.

YHBT. HAND.

It's funny. Laugh.

Journal Journal: Adventures in Slashdot Meta-Mod 2

I know I've been making a lot of noise about how meta-mod can be used as a tool to increase the noise.

Here's a real-world example. This post came to me for meta-modding. The moderation I was assigned to meta-mod was the one UP-MODDING the post to "Interesting". Of course I marked it "fair", because whatever moderator sacrificed a mod point for that post deserves to be rewarded.

By meta-modding that moderation as "fair", I'm helping ensure that moderator gets mod points again.

Conversely (inversely? I can never remember), there was this post. My job was to meta-moderate one of the upmods given to it ("+1 Interesting"). *YAWN* That's surely not noise. Whatever moderator used a point to mod that up surely doesn't deserve to keep his moderation ability, so I mark it "UNFAIR".

I wish I had a better example of an "UNFAIR" moderation, but you can imagine a slashbot spouting some tired anti-Microsoft FUD. When these are modded up, I mark those moderations "UNFAIR" with extreme prejudice.

In this way I'm using Slashdot's own moderation system to reward trolls and punish... well... anyone who isn't a troll.

If more trolls were to (ab)use the meta-mod system, it'd be safer for them to abuse the MOD system, and hasten the inevitable Slashdot implosion. I get the opportunity to meta-mod twice a day. It takes a couple of minutes, and I get to do my part.

NOW GET META-MODDING!

YHBT. HAND.

Television

Journal Journal: For those (like me) abusing the meta-mod system 2

I've been faithfully meta-modding just about everything as "unfair" or "unfunny" (see my reasoning here) for a few months now.

But lately I've noticed more and more dissenting comments with upmods. I certainly do not want the guy who modded a "michael is a cunt" up to lose his moderation power, so I made sure to meta-mod this "fair".

So I've changed my policy on meta-mod. All comments modded negatively (Flamebait, Troll, Offtopic) get meta-modded as "unfair". Anything positively modded gets inspected. If it's a slashbot getting modded up for "LUNIX GUD, M$$$$ BAD! OMG", that's "unfair". A post ripping on Slashdot, the editorial staff, or insulting a slashbot will get meta-modded as "fair".

It's a little more work. Instead of Christmas-treeing the meta-mod form with blanket "unfair" clicks, I actually have to pay attention. But I like to think it's worth it. I'm hurting the ability of slashbots to reward each other for their thoughtless ignorance, and those with the guts to upmod trolls and dissidents get their moderation choices reinforced.

Fight the power, fellow trolls. Meta-mod whenever you get the chance. If you don't have a positive-karma account with meta-mod eligibility, GET ONE.

To borrow a style from slashbots: "Meta-mod is a Good Thing (tm)". OMG, LOL.

FUCK YOU, SLASHDOT.

Oh, boy are things fucked up tonight. I keep getting the "Have you Meta-Moderated today" message, so I'm doing my duty.

I sure hope the five hundred or so mods I meta-modded as "unfair" tonight really stick. I like to think I've sufficiently affected the moderation pool, but likely there's billion that I won't see.

Ah, well. At least I did SOME damage.

Journal Journal: A wonderful week at Slashdot

I've been otherwise occupied and haven't posted or trolled lately. What with the war, actual work being done and family shite, lowering the signal-to-noise ratio on Slashdot is a pretty low priority.

I have been doing light surfing of Slashdot lately, and it does seem that the trolls have taken over.

The Slashdot to English Translator-matic is fantastic and I hope it gets crapflooded. That entire thread seems to be a disaster. This post nearby deserves kudos as well.

I'm so happy to see the ship continue to sink. Surely it's nearly time for another CmdrTaco hamfisted code hack to "enhance" (a.k.a. "break") some useful part of Slash?

Fuck you, Slashdot.

Wireless Networking

Journal Journal: Slashdot is irresponsible 2

Everyone knows what is the slashdot effect, and is aware of the long history of damage it's caused.

Hell, some sites even block people referred by Slashdot as a means of self-protection. Mozilla.org is one of these.

So when some dipshit submits an article that links to a site on Mozilla, timothy posts it anyway.

Now, these "editors" claim to proofread articles before posting them. Surely timothy, had he bothered to click the link and engage his brain, would've seen the referrer block and done something about it, wouldn't he? He didn't, and hundreds of thousands of Lunix-worshipping mouthbreathers got to see an error message.

Eventually, timothy fired a couple of neurons and decided to check comments, and posted an alternative link presented therein. He couldn't be bothered to do this difficult, perilous task himself.

Why the hell can't (or won't) CmdrTaco and his 1337 kre\/\/ of Perl coders cache pages, at least for the first few hours of a story's life? They're fully aware (and often make jokes about) the Slashdot effect, and its potential to suck money out of the pockets of the very people they're trying to support.

They're either too lazy, too stupid or some combination of the two.

Fuck you, slashdot.

Journal Journal: Metamod == gift to trolls

I've seen several posts recently where people complain about having "infinite" Meta-Mod points. Almost like it's a burden.

It most certainly is not. It is a gift to patient, karma-whoring trolls. Read the Meta-Mod FAQ.

Say you encounter a typical "OMG BILL GATES IS TEH SATAN!" post by, say, circletimessquare. It's been duly modded up as "Insightful" by some unknown editor or slashbot. Why not Meta-Mod that as "unfair"? Sure, you won't have any significant effect on either the poster's karma or the person who modded them up, but you will "help ... remove bad moderators from the M1 eligibility pool."

Similarly, suppose you encounter a post by a troll seething with racism and hatred. It's been duly modded down as "Troll" or "Flamebait". This too is "unfair"! That post increased the noise, and as such was very valuable. It belongs in +2 territory with something by Perens, surely! Whoever modded that down should be removed from the moderation eligibility pool, post haste!

(Note that you don't have to support the racist shite in the post. The poster probably doesn't either; he's just doing it for the reaction.)

This is the same thing that happens to positive-karma troll accounts when they upmod a troll. They're found out in Meta-Mod, and lose their ability to moderate.

It's time the trolls use the same weapons as the slashbots! If you moderate, use "-1 Overrated" since those don't get Meta-Modded. And Meta-Mod whenever you get the chance! I mark almost everything as "unfair", though I occasionally see a very obvious troll being upmodded, which I mark as "fair" or leave alone.

Either that, or just have fun. Whichever.

Edit I've recently realized that my alter ego and I make up a fifth of $$$$$exyGal's foes. I am beaming with pride. Almost as much pride as nabbing 5,000,001st post, or having my sordid past with michael crapflooded by SexualAssPussy.

Journal Journal: My letter to CmdrTaco (the shithead). 17

Written in response to this steaming shitpile of a story. Insite? Insits? CmdrTaco, you're stunningly stupid.

CmdrTaco,

You always complain that when you make errors in story submissions that "no one emails you" about them.

Well here I am. You used the words "Insite" and "Insits" for this story:

http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/10/1931252&mode=thread&tid=141

Those words don't make any sense.

I know you're loathe to read the comments posted on your own site, and you expect your readers to do all of your fact-, dupe- and spell-checking for you, so here I am.

MondoMor

I'll update this JE when (if?) the pinhead replies.

Wow. So polite too.

Notice he spelled "too" correctly! Perhaps his wife is answering for him.

Here's my response:

Quoting Rob Malda :
> Wow. So polite too.

I stated a fact, one that you implicitly admit every time you screw up and post
a dupe. You're "too busy" to check links, facts and spelling, apparently.
Isn't that what editors are supposed to do?

I'm sure he'll tire quickly and report me to my ISPs abuse dept.

Edit2: Another fast response!

> I stated a fact, one that you implicitly admit every time you screw up

Ahhh... sarcasm. You are AWESOME at this!

> You're very responsive considering your constant complaints of 300+
> SPAMs a day.

Over 200 already today.... 8 hours left ;)

Grand. My response:

Quoting Rob Malda :
> Ahhh... sarcasm. You are AWESOME at this!
>

It's a question. You're an editor, so your job is to check your articles over before posting them, isn't it? Yet very few on your staff actually do this. If that's not your job, what exactly is? Your staff posts tens of articles daily. What are they so busy doing that they can't be bothered to do some simple editorial duties? This is the primary job of several of you, isn't it?

You've expressed frustration in the past that you weren't emailed regarding a duplicate posting, but if you'd read the comments attached to the article (some at the time were +2, so you can't say they were all lost in the noise). you'd have seen this fact right away. It's pretty reasonable to conclude that you don't actually read comments unless you've got a specific reason to (like your story announcing the new plum where you enlist paying subscribers to do your editing). Even then, you avoid questions you don't like, like the ones asking why you don't cache sites you're about to DDoS out of existance.

But I'm doing what you asked, emailing you about an editorial mistake, and you do nothing. The spelling errors are still there.

MondoMor

I await another one-sentence response.

Edit3: Didn't have to wait long!

> But I'm doing what you asked, emailing you about an editorial mistake,
> and you
> do nothing. The spelling errors are still there.

But I'm so busy reading your insightful messages, that I just haven't
had time to care about a typo!

Emphasis mine. What a worthless piece of shit.

My response:

Quoting Rob Malda :
> > But I'm doing what you asked, emailing you about an editorial mistake,
> > and you
> > do nothing. The spelling errors are still there.
>
> But I'm so busy reading your insightful messages, that I just haven't
> had time to care about a typo!

What an incredibly unhelpful attitude you have. Your ship is sinking, and you are flip with the people that read your site, and care enough to make an effort to improve it. No wonder no one bothers pointing out your mistakes via email any more. You respond with sarcasm and pointless comments... but at least with greatly improved spelling.

MondoMor

I won't make you suffer through any more. He's upgraded the article's lone use of "Insit" to "Insite", which at least makes it consistent with the headline.

Edit3: The title changes

He's changed the title so it makes a little more sense. It used to read "New Napster Insite", but now reads "New Legit Napster Service Coming", and removed "insite" from the article text.

Like fucking pulling teeth.

I also can't resist one more pair of messages.

The ship is sinking!?! Well, I guess if by "Sink" you mean "Grow" then
you are probably right ;)

if you're just going to be a sarcastic asshole, why do you bother
emailing me? I'm like being told about mistakes and will happily fix
them. But I don't need you to shit on me to do it.

To which I reply:

Quoting Rob Malda :
>
> The ship is sinking!?! Well, I guess if by "Sink" you mean "Grow" then
> you are probably right ;)

Your parent company isn't doing well. It can't be long before the creditors give up on the exercise.

>
> if you're just going to be a sarcastic asshole, why do you bother
> emailing me? I'm like being told about mistakes and will happily fix
> them. But I don't need you to shit on me to do it.

But you don't "happily" fix them. You cop an attitute and get defensive. And you're just as guilty as I of sarcasm, so don't get all self-righteous. You also insult the intelligence of your readers with your biases, your new "plum" (putting paying readers to work for you), and by pretending your moderation system works other than to reinforce the biases of your staff. Michael in particular is a surly, abusive and insulting jerk. You tolerate him, indicating your consent to his behavior. If you think I'm an asshole, put yourself on the receiving end of a Michael Sims moderation abuse episode.

Proof of all this is all over Slashdot, in comments and journal entries, if you care enough to look.

People have made polite suggestions in comments for ages. Usually they're downmodded as "Flamebait". It seems the only way to get you to react at all to all the problems is to "shit on you" to do something about it.

You're reaping what you've sown.

Bug

Journal Journal: I can't believe he did it. 4

CmdrTaco actually went through with the plan to allow subscribers (those who pay Slashdot) to read stories before they're posted for the unwashed and slashdotted.

What a fucking moron.

The editors are too stupid to fact- and dupe-check articles before submitting them, so he enlists the help of the people PAYING HIM to do this in his stead. Those of us viewing Slashdot for free get higher-quality (cough) content, because the poor bastards who pay for it are now doing the work of the paid editorial staff.

That's the most ass-backwards bit of idiocy to make its way through Taco's cholesterol-encrusted synapses yet.

So what happens when your paying customers get sick of doing your job for you, CmdrTaco? Ah, I see you haven't thought that far ahead yet. Mind if I just start laughing at you while I wait? Thanks.

Funny enough, CmdrTaco complains that

I didn't really get a single negative email about the idea. As usual, the negative nellies in the crowd don't bother emailing me, they just post offtopic in the main site discussions.

That might be because your email address isn't particularly easy to find, you grabasstic baboon. And I'm not digging through his stupid fucking personal site just to find it. Why not put it in a mailto: URL for your name? Oh, yeah. SPAM.

CmdrTaco complains endlessly about the number of SPAM messages he receives (and is apparently incapable of using any of the many anti-SPAM tools out there).

CmdrTaco, you mouthbreathing shithead, why don't you get off your ass and deal with it, and put your email address up where someone can find it without picking through your website... which is akin to picking through shit looking for a chewed-up raisin.

I swear to fucking GOD Sloth in The Goonies could do CmdrTaco's job better, probably upping the credibility of Slashdot in the process.

It's sinking, folks. Keep playing.

YHBT. HAND.

Customary Edit:
Apparently, some people take Slashdot too seriously. Yes. Their names are michael and timothy, and they're making your site an even bigger joke than you are, CmdrTaco.
