I was in the process of writing a post about how physical protection means nothing and how the data would would have to be online to be useful anyway when it hit me. Backups. IMO this doesn't make sense as a "keep people out of my data" thing as much as a "I can't lose my data no matter what" thing.

Submission + - HBO Asks Google to Take Down "Infringing" VLC Media Player (torrentfreak.com) 1

another random user writes: It’s no secret that copyright holders are trying to take down as much pirated content as they can, but their targeting of open source software is something new. In an attempt to remove pirated copies of Game of Thrones from the Internet, HBO sent a DMCA takedown to Google, listing a copy of the popular media player VLC as a copyright infringement. An honest mistake, perhaps, but a worrying one.

Usually these notices ask Google to get rid of links to pirate sites, but for some reason the cable network also wants Google to

The same DMCA notice also lists various other links that don’t appear to link to HBO content, including a lot of porn related material, Ben Harper’s album Give Till It’s Gone, Naruto, free Java applets and Prince of Persia 5.

I don't see how a fair tax would do much of anything except lower tax revenue (unless jacked up to a very high percentage). A much more fair tax would be a flat income tax (with capital gains counted as regular income) with a certain "poverty" base being exempt. example: 20K poverty line (I'm just spitballing) and 10% tax. person A made 20K and pays no taxes. person B made 25K, so 25K - 20K = 5K *.1 = $500 person B pays $500 taxes. person C made a million + a million in capital gains (income) so 2M - 20K = 1.98M * .1 = $198K person C pays $198K in taxes.

"The chinaman [protocol] is not the issue here, Dude." If google gives up data to the NSA who gives a shit about the encryption involved in transporting that data to a google server? That's like saying "I'm using bittorrent to seed copyrighted info to a MPAA spy but I'm using full stream encryption, they'll never catch me TROLOLOLOLOL"
