This mentality will destroy the country. Stop turning things into Republicans vs Democrats. Truth is they both serve the same corporate masters.

Basically, whether you vote Republican or Democrat, this kind of thing will go on. The two party system is just useful for distracting people, and getting them to vote in such a way where nothing will actually change.

I ran a 2GB netbook with Windows 7, and it was okay. Certainly felt the lack of memory, but it was usable. Windows 8 is supposed to have a smaller footprint than Windows 7, so maybe it'll fair a bit better.

Except that you can forget about using any and all dark colors. Windows 8 doesn't change the window text to a light color (or, as Windows 7 does, have a white frost effect behind the text). The end result is that if you use a dark window color, you won't be able to comfortably read the window title.

Most people with "unlimited" data will probably use anywhere between 3-10GB.

But there are people, on the same unlimited plan, that will use 100 or 200 or more GB a month. Now, since they bought "unlimited" data, this is fine. They're getting what they paid for. Some might argue that they are abusing the service, but that doesn't matter: they bought unlimited data, so they're using it.

The result is that people who might use less than 10GB of data a month by streaming lots of music and youtube video, are put into the same service tier as people who might basically run torrents on their phone, or even use it as their home broadband, racking up hundreds of GBs of data a month.

I think part of the problem is that right now the data tiers are silly. Plans basically offer triers that look like this:
500MB
2GB
3GB
UNLIMITED

There's this huge spike.

People who will stream slightly mare than average, and people who intend to use their data for massive broadband demands will have no choice but to go with the unlimited plan. How about some more reasonable tiers? Something like
1GB
5GB
20GB
UNLIMITED

They should rename come 67P to Rosetta Stone.

I would say that they build speed for two reasons.

One is marketing. It looks better in marketing to advertise SPEED in big letters, and use words like FASTEST and MOST POWERFUL.

The other is overages. If they give you tons of speed but a tiny limit, you run over your amount fast, then they get co charge you 10 dollars per GB.

In 2013... ...Verizon had 120.5 billion in revenue, 32 billion in operating income. ...Comcast had 64.7 billion in revenue, 16.6 billion in operating Income. ...AT&T had had 128.8 billion in revenue, 30.5 billion in operating income.

What does this tell me? That unless the fine is a percentage of their profit (which to my knowledge doesn't happen in the US), internet providers probably aren't too worried about it. In fact, if lack of transparency nets them more profit than they lose by paying the fine, it's only good business to continue breaking the rule.
