Comment Re:They tried to raise prices 20% unnanounced (Score 1) 392

I made basically the same antenna from your link, although I added a reflector about 1-2" behind it made out of cardboard covered with aluminum foil. It works great! Much better than the two store-bought "HDTV" antennas I tried before hand, and it was a lot cheaper to build.

I live in the Milwaukee suburbs and I get something like 15-25 channels depending on the day and the weather, all from inside my ground floor apartment. All in beautiful 1080i HD! Granted most of those are redundant channels with "local programming", but I do get ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and PBS, so all of the major sporting events are covered. However I do need to adjust my antenna angle or move it around sometimes - the signal is not always rock solid - so I do believe they probably have reduced the transmission power.

Add in Netflix, and my...resourcefulness...in accessing things that you just can't easily buy or stream, and I've been cable TV free for a couple of years now.

Completely off topic reply on a completely off topic post, but I for one am getting sick of this affectation of repeating consonants at the beginning of sentences to...I don't know...simulate stuttering? Where'd this come from? I don't know, but I've just started seeing it in the last several months and it's already pissing me off.

Ok, I feel better now. I will accept my -1 Off Topic mod points with pride.

Then the link will be "www.cnn.com/blah/blah/caffeine.withdrawl.headaches.html\

The whole "Gamergate" thing all just seemed like a lot of hand wringing and teeth gnashing over nothing. I'm vaguely aware of what it was, but don't see how it would ever relate to mine or really anyone's enjoyment of video games.

In other words: Who the fuck cares. I'll be over here playing some games until everyone's done talking about it.

It's nothing but creativity. If you don't create things, there's next to nothing to do there. I've played it extensively with my now 16 year old son, and it's been a great way for me to keep open a key line of communication with a teenager. Now we've moved on to 7 Days to Die, but that's another story. :)

I don't know how their design people allowed a protruding lens in the first place. It really runs contrary to Apple's design sensibility, but I guess we're seeing the first evidence of what happens to Apple without Jobs. The protrusion is ugly, and it mars the flat, smooth design.

The 5th generation iPod Touch (most recent, I believe) has a protruding lens which sticks out about 1 mm also. That came out about 2 years ago, and I have one. The protrusion is just enough to be annoying if you don't use a case.

I personally don't believe that the NSA can't crack strong encryption. I just think it's time consuming enough that they don't make the effort unless it's REALLY REALLY important to them and they have no other means to get at the data. Probably 99% of the time they can work around it, like you suggest.

I've been playing 7 Days to Die with my son recently, and even though it's still in alpha, I can highly recommend it for those who like the survival aspect of Minecraft (i.e. night is coming, build your base before you die to hordes of zombies). The graphics are much improved over Minecraft and the crafting is more in-depth. Plus it has a great overall feel to it. Kind of feels like you're playing The Walking Dead when you're playing with others.

My early years on a computer were spent cracking the DRM (I think we just called it copy protection back then) on Commodore video games and sharing them with friends. It was fun and a good learning experience.

I may or may not have used my BBS to amass a staggeringly huge collection of pirated games, some of which you probably cracked. On behalf of teenage me - thank you for your efforts. :)
