Comment Is it really stateful? (Score 1) 566

One thing I've always wanted to see out of HTTP is a saved state between hits. 1 KB of headers in each frame isn't horrible, but the overhead of verifying an authentication cookie on every hit can be.

Am I reading this right that in section 6.2, headers only happen at the beginning of a stream and do not happen on each individual request? That sure would make my life a little nicer!

Comment Sad day for the end of Linux magazines... (Score 1) 2

This is a sad day for Linux magazines in print. To my knowledge, there is no word of refunds. LJ was the largest of the Linux related magazines, and I believe it was the only one left in print. Voice your opinions on the page in the article, or here for subscribers. Just read through a few comments, there are a lot of pissed off subscribers.

Submission + - Linux Journal Goes Surprise-Digital (linuxjournal.com)

Mr_Perl writes: "Linux Journal sent out an email to subscribers today announcing that they are going 100% digital. Subscribers signed on for a paper version of the journal, and now have been switched to an electronic version, apparently at the exact same subscription rate. No news yet on why they did it, and no sign of any offers to reimburse unused subscriptions for subscribers who are disappointed."

Submission + - Linux Journal Goes 100% Digital (linuxjournal.com) 2

slams writes: Linux Journal will stop publishing hard copies and will go all digital next month, with issue #209. This means one less magazine dealing with Linux on the newsstands and the end to having a leisurely copy of a linux magazine in the cubical.

PS3 Hacked? 296

Several readers have sent word that George Hotz (a.k.a. geohot), the hacker best known for unlocking Apple's iPhone, says he has now hacked the PlayStation 3. From his blog post: "I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. I've also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip. 3 years, 2 months, 11 days...that's a pretty secure system. ... As far as the exploit goes, I'm not revealing it yet. The theory isn't really patchable, but they can make implementations much harder. Also, for obvious reasons I can't post dumps. I'm hoping to find the decryption keys and post them, but they may be embedded in hardware. Hopefully keys are setup like the iPhone's KBAG."

Facebook Master Password Was "Chuck Norris" 319

I Don't Believe in Imaginary Property writes "A Facebook employee has given a tell-all interview with some very interesting things about Facebook's internals. Especially interesting are all the things relating to Facebook privacy. Basically, you don't have any. Nearly everything you've ever done on the site is recorded into a database. While they fire employees for snooping, more than a few have done it. There's an internal system to let them log into anyone's profile, though they have to be able to defend their reason for doing so. And they used to have a master password that could log into any Facebook profile: 'Chuck Norris.' Bruce Schneier might be jealous of that one."

Disney Releases 3D Texture Mapper Source Code 83

dsavi writes "Ptex, Walt Disney Animation Studio's cutting-edge 3D texture mapping library which was first used on nearly every surface in the 2008 animated feature Bolt, was released under the BSD license on Friday. Quoting the announcement on monophyl.com: 'We expect to follow Ptex with other open source projects that we hope the community will find beneficial. We will soon be launching a new Walt Disney Animation Studios Technology page under disneyanimation.com. It will include links to our open source projects as will as a library of recent publications.' This looks good for open source 3D graphics."
It's funny. Laugh.
