Apart from being further away, name one practical difference between technology required to live on Mars instead of the Moon?
I suppose there is the extra radiation shielding required, as the Moon is protected by Earth's magnetosphere and Mars has none.

Yes, then you get a compound, that no longer has properties of the metal it is made from, like being electrically conductive. Sapphire is also ~20 less thermally conductive than aluminium too. You need to add zinc to make it conductive, which makes it less transparent.
Conductive metal would be good for LED's and solar panels if they out-perform indium tin oxide

I use public transport when it's convenient.
I drive my car to the train station and catch the train to the CBD.
If I had to take connecting bus routes - on either end of the journey, I wouldn't bother with public transport at all and would drive the whole way.
It's a pain in the ass and dramatically increases the travel time. My time is worth more than that. It's either time I would spend at work making money or time I spend away from my family.
So there is plenty of incentive to research AI concepts and building on work made public by a patent isn't going to stop that.
That's one good thing that comes from patents. Public disclosure of the ideas.
