Submission + - Ensign 1 Kickstarter Campaign (kickstarter.com)

Rustybolts writes: "Only Human Studios have started a Kickstarter campaign to help fund their new game Ensign 1. Ensign 1 is a single/ multiplayer space combat game for Linux, PC and Mac with a interesting twist. You can leave your cockpit of your currently boarded ship. You can then leave your ship when docked to explore larger capital ship and choose to pilot any other ship that happens to be laying around the docking area or take control of the capital ship itself.

Submission + - Interview with Jonathan Prior of Gameolith.com (gamingonlinux.com)

liamdawe writes: "GOL: How did you first get into using Linux and why do you prefer it to other operating systems?

I've been into Linux for the better part of 9 years now. I got into it when
I encountered a piece of software (honestly can't remember exactly what it
was) which was licenced with the GNU GPL, and after browsing the GNU site
for a while, I was introduced to Linux. My first distribution was Red Hat
Linux 9, which I used until Red Hat's free distribution became Fedora. Then
I tried many different distros and finally settled on Ubuntu.

I've come to prefer Linux, especially recently, because it's so easy to get
a system up and running and to just use it! All my favourite developer tools
are on the platform, and it's been good to me over the years."

Android

Submission + - Android ICS will support gamepads, HDMI out (extremetech.com)

MrSeb writes: "Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the update that will marry smartphones and tablets in blissful union come mid-November, will natively support USB gamepads and HDMI output. That’s gamepads plural, and HDMI, as in the connector that your 50-inch 1080p HDTV uses. In other words, if you have an Xbox 360 or PS3 and a few controllers, you’ll be able to turn your ICS-powered Galaxy Nexus into a video games console. Don't get too excited, though: mobile CPUs and GPUs are still no where near current-generation consoles (which are now six years old), and most mobile games really aren't designed for big-screen, gamepad play. Still, if anything, ICS's support for these console-like features mean that Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony better keep an eye out — in a year or two, there could well be mobile phones or tablets that can produce the gaming experiences we desire."
