That's the best they could come up with from their scrap pile? *puke* They'll pay more for power over the next 3 years than it would cost them to buy some decent enterprise-level servers with real switches.

The EX-4200 is great, for a basic SOHO or OOB switch, but I wouldn't use it where any real connectivity was required.

If you're going to go for the classless casual hookup, at least go to a bar with other people looking for the same thing.

Also, don't die if you can avoid it. I don't know who you are or what your situation is, but as someone who has lost many people I cared about, just... don't.

Actually, suicide is typically not talked about in Western media because they're trying not to encourage copycats. That's why, with very few exceptions (Robin Williams, other famous people) you typically won't find anything in the paper. I know Microsoft has had at least one jumper from the Lincoln Square office in Bellevue, other tech companies probably have too. Funny thing, anywhere you treat people as sub-human for long enough, strange psychological things happen and they start to lose the will to live.

But, by and large, I agree with the lack of coverage in the media. People who may be borderline suicidal can be triggered by reading about other peoples' suicides, no need for the media to perpetuate the problem with in-depth coverage and how-to guides.

In case you never noticed, Skype needs customers to stay relevant. Even the idiots in management at Microsoft realize this. They also - at least mostly - realize that no matter how popular, not even Skype will bring users to a crap OS like Windows 8. They continue to support other OSs (and even add support for new non-MSFT platforms) because the world has moved on from being Windows-only. That doesn't stop them from releasing new features for their own flagshit OS first, however (typo not accidental).

Primarily because this "coward way out" leads to large numbers of people being unafraid to commit crimes. Would you also refuse to intervene in a rape if you saw it about to happen or in progress? I mean, the cops will catch the rapist eventually. How about a homicide, if you see a few kids stomping a homeless Tuba player to death, are you going to just walk on by? You pay taxes for this kind of thing don't you? The homeless guy can be replaced, your life and limb less so. The cops will catch the murdering youths eventually (RIP Ed, Seattle remembers you fondly).

Maybe you'd also sit placidly on a plane that was being taken over by a few guys with box cutters. I mean, the coward way out is more often than not the smart one, right? Let them have the plane, the airline has insurance and can buy a new one anytime.

Your victim mentality is not helpful to you, or society. You want crime to skyrocket? Play the victim, you seem to have the mindset down. You want crime rates to decrease? Refuse to be a victim. If I go down, I go down fighting. If I see someone being beaten, abused, robbed, raped, I will not stand idly by or walk on past, I will intervene on their behalf. I will not be a victim, and I will not stand idly by out of selfishness while others are victimized.

Is that supposed to be funny, or dumb? I'm not quite sure what you're going for. See, Indians are these people that come from a place called India. I didn't know what a Brahman was until I worked for one. And you're right... all of them I've met have been assholes, while the lower caste Indians I've known have been mostly pretty decent people. In fact, I've noticed a strong correlation between caste, hygiene, and personality. Lower caste Indians, from what I've observed, are often slightly less well-groomed, and are typically far nicer people. High-caste Indians will dress and groom immaculately, and be complete assholes.

There are exceptions, but by and large this has been my repeated observation after working with hundreds of Indians over the years. I'm probably a racist for pointing it out, but whatever.

So, I'll summarize to what I was initially going to say (before I went on a bit of a rant, as it were). Essentially, you don't need technology to put you in such a situation. You can just take a job in a different industry, or company, or management chain, or whatever. Assuming you're white, if you want to be treated as a reviled minority, there are plenty of jobs where you can get the experience of being a reviled minority first-hand.

The other part of what I said though (which I think you missed), is that this type of experience doesn't typically breed tolerance; quite the opposite, in fact. I know a LOT of people who went into Microsoft without prejudice against any race, and came out loathing Indians. Sure, maybe those of us who went through that hell can identify with other minorities now, but is it really a better situation? I don't think so.

Comment Re:Tired of this shit (Score 2) 448

If you're white, and want to be a minority and be treated like a worthless piece of shit, all you have to do is go work for an Indian management chain at Microsoft (or probably any other big tech company). Want to get a bad review because of the color of your skin? Be white. Want to work 16-hour days while your bosses are off playing golf? Be white - your Indian coworkers will be off playing golf with your bosses, so you get to do their work.

Want to claim that you're a minority who's been discriminated against, and that you're not racist as a response? I say bullshit. Racism breeds racism. I never had a problem with Indians until I and all my white coworkers (and ALL my female coworkers, regardless of race) were routinely subjected to their racist bullshit for years on end. When they routinely hand out mediocre to poor reviews to all the whites, and stellar reviews to all the Indians, but then put those same whites in charge of the high visibility projects that they need done right the first time, there's a problem. When the Indians can take down an online service multiple times without much more than a sideways glance, and a white person nearly gets fired for causing a lesser outage, there's a problem. When this happens long enough, it's easy to start harboring disdain and distrust of ALL Indians.

I was fortunate - I got to know enough decent, talented Indian folk who treated everyone with respect that it mostly straightened out my view on the matter. SOME whites are racist assholes - the majority are not. SOME blacks are racist assholes - the majority are not. SOME Indians are racist assholes - they are drawn to management positions at Microsoft, apparently - but the majority are not.
