Comment This is "If you have nothing to hide" again (Score 2) 264

I've heard this argument a lot over the years. In roughly chronological order:
If you have nothing to hide then...

  • you won't mind the hidden microphone at work
  • you won't object to random drug tests
  • you don't care if we search you every day when you leave the office
  • you won't mind if we monitor your email and eavesdrop on your phone coversation
  • you won't mind supplying your real name

...and on and on. Personally, this argument always fails for me.

Comment Re:Right... OtherOS removal continues to cost Sony (Score 1) 321

My wife & I are in the same boat.
I sit and marvel at Sony's approach to public relations. Exactly how much would leaving OtherOS in place have cost them? How much would restoring it cost them? Compare that to how much the lawsuits and these attacks cost them.
Plus the lost business from people like us who can no longer purchase DLC or even new games that require firmware updates.

Comment Fire the supporting representatives (Score 2, Insightful) 489

We have a war on 2 fronts, a damaged economy and climate change. Still congress has the free cycles to sell out the public interest in return for some bribes (I mean lobbying fees).

Maybe we should fire them? Anybody have a list of which representatives supported this?

After all, they're supposed to be representing their constituents.

Apparently, so do many of my co-workers whether they know it or not.

I was in a meeting the other day where everyone brought their laptops.

All of us with glossy screens (Macbooks) were crowded to one side of the conference table so the window wouldn't be behind us. Those with matte (ThinkPads) screens were unconcened.

Comment Locked out by Sony (Score 1) 232

Sony won't let us log in to the Playstation network until we install their OS update 3.21. However, this "upgrade" disables linux (the "Other OS" feature). I refuse to allow Sony to remotely delete this option, so downloadable content is not an option for my family. Cleverly, Sony is also preventing me from buying or renting films or other content. Well, that's their call.
