Comment Fractal Music Implementation (Score 1) 38

Might work with some of [shameless plug] my fractal formulas * [/shameless plug], although you'd have to use sqrt [1-sin^2 (x)] for cosine as it apparently isn't implemented? (I only see sin and atan2).

Probably try it with simple 2d fractal formulas first. Nice...

On another note (I'll scan thread carefully), any recommendations for other open source mathematical music programs?

You forgot the single most important ingredient.

Cumin

I normally don't do this, but. WRONG!

Beer. What beer you use is important as well. Dark... something Porterish...

Start with some ground meat (brown it up a bit).

Throw in some onions, peppers (red and green bell), 1/3 cup Frank's red hot, garlic (a few cloves, minced or pressed in a garlic press). Toss in a beer or 2. A few cans diced tomatoes. Sugar (white or brown) to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes.

Add yer spices: CHILI POWDER, cumin (some already in the chili powder, but a bit more won't hurt- don't kill it with cumin though, lots of flavors gotta come outta a great chili), oregano (yup, that too), onion powder (just because it's awesome), garlic powder (yeah... do it), red pepper flakes to taste (or toss a habanero in it...). Salt if it needs it (depending on taste, Frank's has a bunch of salt in it already, but I usually like a bit more). Screw it... you might as well grind some fresh black pepper into it as well. Black pepper rules.

Let it simmer for a while to reduce the amount of liquid. An hour or so before it's ready, add in a few cans of beens- red kidney, light red, pinto, etc.. and a few tablespoons of red wine vinegar for some zing - make sure you balance it with sugar, if you make it too sour.

Serve it up with some grated cheese and either crackers or chips.

For the grated cheese, try some Cabot's habanero cheddar.... :D although you might want some pre-shredded mexican cheese blend or sharp cheddar as well.

Anyways... Now I gotta make chili this weekend. Thanks for the idea.

Comment Re:Dark matter always seemed like a cop out. (Score 1) 80

What's interesting now is what it's made of - all we know is there's no interaction with photons, and no frictional clumping as you'd see in normal matter (or at least not in the wide range of energies involved in galaxy formation).

It's 4 space dimension matter rather than 3 space dimension. Since 'our' 3 space dimension matter has nil (0.0) 4d space volume, there is basically zero % chance of interaction*. Likewise with other lower or higher dimensional matter.

Additionally 4d photons don't interact directly with 3d matter, etc.etc.

The interesting thing is that spacetime curvature still occurs... which explains the gravitational effects of different dimensional matter.

    * I can't recall the article, but a while ago someone was talking about how particles 'teleported' through a very thin "solid" sheet of matter because they had a small chance of being on the other side of the sheet of matter. Since a 2d slice of 3d spacetime has zero thickness (more or less infinitely smaller than the Planck length), the particle would be likely to be on either side of the 2d slice. Extend this up to a 4d/3d interaction...

A star had some of its plasma ripped off by a black hole (or another star) moving by. For whatever reason, the heavier elements were captured by the 2 larger bodies and the leftover H and He slowly coalesced into the freaky star.

Scenario 2- The freaky star formed at the Lagrangian point between 2 huge stars and was dislodged from the system by a passing star.
