Do it the other way around, that's what we've done for our employees. First they order Comcast cable only (any package) if they so desire. Some are on satellite and have opted not to do that. Then you order Comcast Business and tie it to your company but the service address is the employee's house. They are more than happy to do that and the few times we've called them to resolve issues that required a truck roll, the tech wasn't a contractor but an actual Comcast employee who knows the the business service. We have consistent quality and service on 12, 22, and 50 Mb connections. When comparing the lost time and IT staff required to resolve issues when we let home users use the residential services (Cable or HellSouth, err AT&T) to the increased cost of service, it continues to pay for itself.

Good thing about a credit union that services techies (the old DEC crowd). It's funny to see HP kit in the offices, I'd still love to see VT300-VT400's from days past. Now DFCU, 'splain to me again why you closed down the Alpharetta branch??!!! Personally, I use mint.com to manage historical transactions.

Stock up on that Kodachrome while you've got time Gerafix. There's 95% crap out there no matter what the method of photography is, same holds true with HDR. Trey Ratcliff shows how it can be done in an artistic manner.

<a href="http://www.cooksillustrated.com/>Cook's Illustrated</a> has lots of helpful geek-type cooking advice. In fact, you'll see a lot of Alton Brown's ideas referenced in their magazine and cookbooks. Seeing their relationship with the Culinary Institute of America, Alton's alma mater if you will, it's no surprise. Almost a Consumer's Digest of cooking.

Comment Re:When do I use checks? (Score 1) 494

The capabilities of online bill pay are important for me. Even though it's online, paper checks are still mailed from places such as checkfree and can cover those places that don't accept online payment or charge a crapload to process (I'm talking about you Georgia DMV!).

We go through about 100-200 checks a year, and like you, mostly for offertory at church. I was able to setup up payroll with the routing number and account number although it was mandatory a voided check be provided. The main reason? Proof I didn't screw up the numbers. A quick prenote of my account was enough.

With all the talk about USAA I was wondering is DCU would be mentioned. Back in my DEC days I used them but dropped off after leaving. Ironically, they have a local branch in Alpharetta (next to a good Indian food store, so two birds, one stone).

As you mention, the site isn't anything special, but the services match up with other banks and credit unions (heck, all use only a few back end services), but they are nice to work with. I really wish I could have reused my old account number for the DEC nerd cred.

I liked the Herakles center in Sacramento too. We also normally need SAS 70 Type II facilities. Those address mostly audit and security concerns, but a data center must be in good operational shape to stay current with a type II. the ones I normally run away from are central offices turned colocation. "Yeah, we are just finishing up our audit." Uh huh.
