It's couched in all kinds of nice geek speak, but basically this is a PAC being created for one goal, campaign finance reform. As I do not believe that campaign finance reform should be used as a method to limit the speech of others, i'm out of this one. Sorry, Woz, not gonna be on your side of this fight. "Campaign finance reform" as a term used today is an attempt to stop grass-roots individuals such as those who funded this PAC from being able to donate in the future to organizations that support their own beliefs. Only those who can afford to pay for political ads personally will be able to play, and those who can't won't be able to band together as they do today.

Submission + - Physics Professors Say TSA Rigged X Ray Tests (naturalnews.com) 2

Jeremiah Cornelius writes: A letter signed by five professors from the University of California, San Francisco and Arizona State University challenge claims made for the safety of the backscatter X Ray scanners, in use by TSA: "The document is heavily redacted with red stamps over the words and figures. In every case the electric current used which correlates one to one with X-ray dose has been specifically redacted. Thus there is no way to repeat any of these measurements... In fact the JHU APL personnel, ..were not provided with a machine by Rapiscan. Instead they were invited to the manufacturing site to observe a mock-up of components (spare parts) that were said to be similar to those that are parts of the Rapiscan system."

I not only do not use icons on my desktop, but I hide any potential icons so they cannot be reached. If I must minimize or close applications to access applications or folders, I'm doing it wrong. Instead, I properly setup my GUI to work the way I think. Since it's a windows box, that means quicklaunch icons, quicklaunch folders, and a well-organized start menu.

Journal Journal: I can disable advertising?

I just noticed a checkbox that allows me to disable advertising, because I've made positive contributions to the site. Thanks Slashdot for an interesting feature. I understand the concept of advertising, though, so I'm choosing to not disable the ads. The way I see it, the ads are a cost for my use of slashdot without paying money. I'll choose the pay the cost my way, because it's cheaper than not being a cheapskate.

Today, World of Warcraft is available in seven different languages and is played in North America, Europe, mainland China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.""
