Sorry, but ALL smart TV's suck.

Give us a place to dock a Roku or ATV and call it done. LG/Sony/Panasonic/Etc all utterly suck at the "smart" part. actually they all utterly suck at software and firmware in general. All of them have user interfaces that are train wrecks.

These Firefox Tv's will have a bastardization all over in them. Like how SHARP shovels advertisements at you. Buy a $2600 Tv set and you have Ad's on screen unless you unplug the network and never use the smart functions. WTF is that?

.. the best way to address that problem would be for the EU to define the standards and the process to be followed...

This, absolutely this. In order to force someone to turn over information, I have to have a valid subpoena issued by a court with jurisdiction. The fact that they just punted this to "you figure it out" means Google is given arbitrary discretion on how they can fulfil this, and the recourse to disagreeing is to take them to court and sue them again.

If you're going to give someone a right enforced by the government, then you should provide the necessary process to issue a "strike-records decree"...

BTW, Google still tells employees not to talk about this stuff in public, because Google has to so carefully watch its steps. (Disclaimer, I used to be a Google employee this year)

The problem is also the consent decree that says "anything that Google says, it has to actually be doing"... which can end up really nitpicky if lawyers want to be... and "my various governments" are all looking to catch Google for something, anything... so, they are being a bit nitpicky...

In general we think of a generation being about 25 years - from the birth of a parent to the birth of a child. We also generally accept that the length of a generation in earlier periods of history was closer to 20 years when humans mated younger and life expectancies were shorter.

So we have them that have outlasted a human generation and are still in operation to this day.

That is a complete lie. I just did a search and found only one mention of the words SmartCar or Prius, and they were written by you.

Quote me the last Slashdot article that was focused on LED bulbs. Ok, you might find one.

I just said that the issues of replacing incandescent light bulbs is over which is why it needs longer needs any discussion. We also don't discuss this new color TV that we have had for decades because it is no longer news for nerds anymore. Don't try to make out like it is some conspiracy to bury the topic just because there are other technologies that have yet to prove themselves.

Because without a good economy, many more people are hurt and killed due to a lack of basic life needs

Now that sounds very alarmist. The idea that the economy will be so ruined by a carbon tax that people will die from lack of basic life needs is extreme and unsupported.

So the idea that we're going to toss money out the window when it comes to the environment? What color is the sky in that world?

Blue, and with a partially restored ozone layer too. That's right, there have been many instances where we have spent money to fix environmental problems.

Rust only happens in the presence of oxygen. and I have seen sealed systems that are flooded with noble gasses that will absolutely stay in like new condition for 10,000 years unless the polymer seal fails massively. oxygen intrusion would be so slow that they would probably still be OK 5000 years after a seal failed.
