Submission + - Robot to journey to the center of the earth

iambarry writes: "In what would be sure to lead to a global catastrophe if not for the heroic action of one special robot, scientists are planning a mission to the earth's mantle : "the hole exposes the mantle, the material that makes up Earth's interior...We do not know why that is...Because of this gap we can see directly into the Earth's mantle." A "robotic device will land on the bottom of the crater...and dig into the mantle to bring back samples.""

Submission + - Buy Apple shares and get rich?

Jan writes: "An interesting post about Apple stocks appeared today on profit42.com titled "Buy Apple shares and get rich?". With WWDC07 coming in June the Apple stocks are likely to explode, or is there something we forget. The article starts with a fact: "If you bought an Apple share at Jun 14, 2006 for the market price of only $50 because you knew that Apple was going to release some cool things on WWDC 2006 (August the seventh 2006) and you could sell it today for $86 and make 72% profit in half a year!". But is it wise to sell your shares now? And if you don't have any, do you need to buy? Let's start the discussion in the comments and keep this list of points (quoted from profit42's article) in your mind while typing:

— WWDC07 will be held from June 11-15
— On this conference Apple will most likely introduce a new Dual Quadcore Mac Pro
— and a new line of ultraportable notebooks (tablets?)
— and Leopard
— and the iPhone will start shipping

— Windows Vista is overhyped at the moment and soon everyone will realize that OSX performs better for daily computer use.
— Windows Vista is overpriced
— Zune, anyone? The new Zune has been a disaster
— Apple has the best ads ever: People go to apple.com site to see the ads in their spare time!
— Microsoft ads? Can't remember one... (well, maybe those running on a Macbook).

— The iPhone, yeah, it's cool, but does anyone want to pay $499 + a two year contract for a first gen Apple phone?
— The Dual Quad Core will be out of reach for 90% of the people on this earth.
— People that bought won' switch to OSX in the next few years and most people that didn't/won't upgrade are to scared to switch to OSX.
— Ultra Portable's? That sounds expensive and slow...."

Submission + - Final AACS key found

julie-h writes: The PowerDVD AACS private key for playing Blu-Ray and HD-DVD's have been found. This was the last key needed. What does this mean? We don't have to sniff/snoop Volume IDs anymore. We can create a program that can decrypt (or play if you will) a disc without any need for WinDVD or PowerDVD. So no sniffing/extracting of keys anymore. And more over: it can work on all platforms... In other words: we can make our own independent, user friendly player (or decrypter).
