Comment But will it run properly on two screens? (Score 1) 266

I ditched Fedora when they introduced Gnome 3 as it simply does not run properly on two screens
and switched to Linux Mint.

I use my laptop's screen and an external monitor configured as separate X servers. This setup works
perfectly with Gnome 2 and is totally useless with Gnome 3.

So, anyone know if the next Linux Mint will support this?

No, you are not the only one.

When the first release of Fedora with Gnome 3 came out, I discovered the same problems. It was a shame to have to dump Fedora, but I switched to Linux Mint so that I could still use my laptop with dual, independent X screens.

Until the Gnome developers fix this, I'll be staying with whatever distro still supports Gnome 2. Proper functionality with two screens is basic stuff and the excuses for not fixing it that I have heard just don't cut it.

Comment Screw Sony! (Score 1) 312

I have not purchased anything from Sony since they released audio CDs with embedded root-kits and I will never buy anything from them again.

The impact of my own boycott is minimal, but if everyone took the same approach, Sony would at best go out of business and maybe, at the least, stop acting like the corporate bully that they are.

Submission + - HAL, open source? (nasa.gov)

An anonymous reader writes: I was going through a list of NASA's open source licensed software and stumbled a project called Livingstone2. From their site: "Livingstone2 is a reusable artificial intelligence (AI) software system designed to assist spacecraft, life support systems, chemical plants or other complex systems in operating robustly with minimal human supervision, even in the face of hardware failures or unexpected events." They even have a SDK and a real-time interface to it.

Submission + - Best hosting providers?

flybrarian writes: This has been discussed on Slashdot before, but it's been a while. So, I'd like to get some updated recommendations. Who would you recommend as a web hosting provider? I'd like to hear your thoughts on the best providers for shared hosting as well as the best providers for dedicated servers and/or VPS. Things that are particularly important to me are uptime and customer service that does not suck.
