Most e-readers allow annotations, including kindles.

Yeah, they're handle PDFs, but you have to turn them on their side because of the small screen size. That can make it inconvenient, but I personally don't have problem with it.

I'll keep that in mind for the next e-reader I get.

Or any e-reader tablet that uses e-ink (unlike kindle fires). I find that it's just as easy to read as print without the eyestrain that comes from reading LCD screens. Also the battery on those things are AMAZING. I rarely have to charge mine more than once per month.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I lived near Dallas, Texas for close to a decade, and the 100+ degree temps in the summer combined with high humidity was terrible. Like you, I'm living in OK with a more tolerable climate, and decent AC (it keeps my apartment cool during the summer), which is a challenge, since I keep a computer in just about every room, have an HTPC, and keep a reef aquarium (which releases TONS of heat into the room, thus requiring the AC to be on all day, even at work).

The inspector generals exist for a reason. And failing that, he could have gone all the way to the President if need be. Instead, he gave the documents to someone else - documents that he knew were classified, but had no idea just what was on them. He knew that they could contain information that put american lives at risk, as well as the lives of anyone working with the military.

Absolutely. He had quite a bit of time to think this over before he handed Assange the data. There is also the issue of leaking the names of informants who worked with us. He put their lives in danger, and may have gotten some of them killed. Everyone seems to be ignoring THAT issue.

Agreed. But the fact that software could load faster from a disk was a plus. I just wish it didn't take forever to fire up. This was my first experience with a GUI as well.

Except that in Windows 8 they didn't remove the click. The hot corner still makes a "button" appear, but you still have to click on it to get into the start screen.

Agreed. They were with 4.0, which was still better than Gnome 3, but they've made long strides since then.

While I agree that there has been progress on the unified notification, there has been 3D accelerated composited desktops (which IMO look better than Aero and Aqua) for a while now in the form of Compiz. Yeah, it may be tacked on, but in many ways, it can integrate well with Metacity and Kwin. I even still use it in KDE4 over it's built in compositing as it adds more options, and generally runs faster (for me anyways). I never really understood why neither desktop just didn't stick with that instead of reinventing the wheel.
