Diggester writes: "To some it might not be a big deal, but to most of us the choice of a browser does matter. Though Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has been with us for a long time, but people are now trying their luck with the browsers offered by Google and some other companies as well.

Internet Explorer has been the most popular web browser for more than a decade now, but the results for October speak of its demise and rise of Chrome as the new king of Browsers after overtaking Firefox. Keeping in mind that IE have been earning majority market share since its advent, reaching its best as 95 percent share in 2004 and declining ever since."

Mightee writes: "The Stockholm District Court sentence against Pirate Bay founder Gottfrid Svartholm was finalized today after he failed to appear at the Court of Appeal. Svartholm, also known as Anakata online, did not appear at the appeal trial last year because he was hospitalized in Cambodia and later went missing. The Court of Appeal has now decided to finalize the initial verdict of one year jail time and a fine of $1.1 million."

In November '09 and October '10 Jaguar topped the Top500 lists of world's fastest supercomputers. But it was not until late October 2010 that Jaguar was dethroned by a Chinese supercomputer Tianhe-1A achieving 2.5 quadrillion calculations per second.

Now, after almost a year, the phoenix is going to rise out of the pyre; Jaguar is all set to become the most powerful supercomputer again."

Mightee writes: "Sir Geoffrey Ingram Taylor in 1964 described the phenomena of liquid drop changing its shape when passing through an electric field. He observed it in the rain drops modifying their outlook when struck upon by lightening.

Exploring the same phenomena, a team of researchers hailing from Georgia Institute of technology, have unveiled another method for solidification of liquids. Demonstrated with the help of simulation, they have explained the solidification of liquid into crystals under the influence of sufficiently high electric fields. They have termed this phase transformation as "electro-crystallization".

Instead of the spherical liquid drops used by Taylor, the Georgia tech researchers focused their study on a liquid formamide droplet of 10 nanometer radius. Formamide is composed of polar molecules with dipole moment twice as that of a water molecule."

They search for the environment and the necessary elements for establishing a habitat for Homo sapiens. After mars, it's Venus this time that has shown a green signal. Surprisingly it isn't NASA but the Venus Express spacecraft of 'the European Space Agency' who has found it.

The signal is actually the presence of Ozone layer similar to that surrounding our mother Earth and Mars already. It is a layer of Ozone (O3) surrounding the earth which absorbs harmful ultraviolet rays coming from the sun. It bears quite a lot importance in the presence of life on earth. In fact, it is thought to have been brought into being by the life itself."

This language is, as a product of the 21st century, designed with modern web browsers and modern devices — from tablets to servers — in mind.

According to a reportedly leaked email from last year, the language “aims to maintain the dynamic nature of JavaScript but have a better performance profile and be amenable to tooling for large projects.”

Dart is said to be a replacement for JavaScript (or CoffeeScript, or ClojureScript). It’s class-based, and it was developed to bring more simplicity, efficiency and scalability to the table. Key minds behind the project include Google programmers Lars Bak, Gilad Bracha and Kasper Lund."

According to a research paper published recently, physicists claimed to have developed a device called "Quantum spin Hall topological insulator". It is prepared from a commercial grade semiconductor also being used in manufacturing goggles for night vision. It acts as an electron super highway and boasts primary importance in the development of quantum particles.

According to experts at Rice University, these particles will prove their worth in accelerating the processing speed of computing tasks related to code breaking, climate modeling and bio modeling simulations. According to security researcher Miles Fidelman there are vendors that sell security monitoring packages to the Defense Department which are ‘essentially rootkits that do, among other things, key logging.’ The virus is a keylogger that was found at pilot stations, and could be keeping tabs on keystrokes used by pilots to control the UAVs, found Wired’s Danger Room blog. Fidelman adds ‘I kind of wonder if the virus that folks are fighting is something that some other part of DoD deployed intentionally.’

It will also file legal cases in other countries to stop the sale of the iPhone 4S after further review, the South Korean maker of Galaxy smartphones and tablets said in a statement.

Samsung has emerged as a credible challenger to Apple's mobile devices and the two companies are battling over patents in courtrooms around the world. They have sued each other in 10 countries involving more than 20 cases since April."

The report comes from Asymco that compares the sales of Apple and Microsoft and reached the conclusion that Apple iDevices make more revenue than Microsoft does with all its products."

CWmike writes: "Google's Chrome is on the brink of replacing Firefox as the second-most-popular browser, says the Web statistics firm StatCounter, which shows that Chrome will pass Firefox to take the No. 2 spot behind Microsoft's IE no later than December. As of Wednesday, Chrome's global average user share for September was 23.6%, while Firefox's stood at 26.8%. IE, meanwhile, was at 41.7%. The climb of Chrome during 2011 has been astonishing: It has gained eight percentage point since January 2011, representing a 50% increase. During that same period, Firefox has dropped almost four percentage points, a decline of about 13%, while IE has also fallen four points, a 9% dip. That means Chrome is essentially reaping all the defections from Firefox and IE."
