The complain, specifically, I was addressing was price. $800 is not $600 is not $349. The complaint I was addressing was the inadequate specifications of the low-end Microsoft device using 2 GB ram when newer cellphones are coming with more, standard.

Chromebooks are between 200-300 for units that have 2GB ram. While the screen size is bigger, they aren't as portable or connected as Cell Phones. Trade offs for price / quality / performance.

The over all point is that Microsoft is being squeezed at both ends, out of the Windows World in to the Cloud / whocareswhatdeviceyouhave world. They cannot compete in all areas all the time, without compromising something. And right now, Microsoft is eating itself trying to compete in places it wasn't built to compete with.

The long term prospects for MS at this point are grim. They have lost market dominance of computing devices to Android and iDevices .And while they still dominate Desktop / Enterprise world, they have lost the mobile arena.

I evidently mis-read your comment about 9mm and .38 being the same size, which is what I was addressing. .38 is slightly larger, but the larger powder charge behind the 9mm makes it a more effective round. That being said, more effective round is easily eclipsed by shot placement.

And again, a round from a long gun is head and shoulders above any handgun round.

Ad blockers that allow the ad to render and then cover it up exist, but they eliminate the bandwidth and CPU time savings of a normal ad blocker. Like normal ad display, a cover-up ad blocker slows down rendering, drains your device's battery (as its CPU has to come out of sleep mode more often), and runs up a higher data bill with your ISP compared to a normal ad blocker. And as I mentioned above, a cover-up ad blocker fails with interactive advertisements.

Which means your favorite general-purpose web search engine can't see it to index it. Of course, a site could provide just the title, author, and abstract without digital restrictions management and get those in the index, similarly to how Elsevier journals and WSJ.com present articles to anonymous visitors and to logged-in users whose subscription has lapsed.
