There has been much debate as to the credibility of Mr. Rossi because he has a criminal background, but apparently he has been telling the truth about perhaps one of the greatest inventions in history of mankind.

Last week three of the six core members were sentenced in the UK, but this only served to highlight the fact that one member of the group, known as Avunit, has been able to remain unidentified despite the FBI having turned the group's leader Sabu into an informant. Who is Avunit? And does he hold the purse strings of the group's Bitcoin wallet which could have up to $180,000 in it?

mask.of.sanity writes: Three members of the hacktivist group LulzSec have been sentenced to a total of six years in prison.

Ryan Ackroyd, Jake Davis and Mustafa al-Bassam were charged with attacks on the Serious Organised Crime Agency, Sony, Nintendo, 20th Century Fox and governments and police forces in a 50-day spree in the summer of 2011.

Davis was sentenced to 24 months in a young offender's institution and he will serve half of the sentence. Al-Bassam received a 20-month sentence, suspended for two years and 300 hours unpaid work. Ackroyd was given a 30-month sentence; he will serve half.

Cleary also pleaded guilty to possession of child abuse images following a second arrest on October 4, 2012. He will be sentenced at separate hearing.

The researchers say they do not yet know whether anything has been living in it all this time, but the water contains high levels of methane and hydrogen — the right stuff to support life.
Micrometre-scale pockets in minerals billions of years old can hold water that was trapped during the minerals’ formation. But no source of free-flowing water passing through interconnected cracks or pores in Earth’s crust has previously been shown to have stayed isolated for more than tens of millions of years (paper abstract).

edanto writes: A young Irish man wrongly accused of jumping from a taxi without paying the fare has secured a judgement from an Irish court ordering the video removed from the entire internet. Experts from Google, Youtube, Facebook and others must tell the court in two weeks if this is technically possible.
The thing is, the _video_ is accurate, it is only a comment that wrongly identified Eoin McKeogh as the fare-jumper in the video that is inaccurate. It's not clear if the judge has made any orders about the comment.

mikejuk writes: A short while ago Slashdot reported http://developers.slashdot.org/story/13/04/29/203205/can-older-software-developers-still-learn-new-tricks on a study that showed that StackOverflow reputation grew with age and a few other obvious things but if you look closely at the data things are much more interesting.
There is a very big increase in reputation variance at about 45 years. Before this age the variance is small and lies around a regression line that indicates a steep increase in reputation. You could almost call the 20 to 45 the "driven" period where everyone is fiercely competing for reputation and accumulating it as befits their age and status.
Similarly until 25 the number of tags, measuring the range of interests falls then it starts to rise. Could this be the age of disillusionment — when the one true technology fails to deliver and they start to look around for alternatives?
So something happens around 25 and 45 to change the way programmers behave — but what?

The proposal, which the Raleigh News & Observer reports was unanimously approved by the state’s Senate Commerce Committee on Thursday, would apply to all car manufacturers, but the intended target is clear. It’s aimed at Tesla, the only U.S. automaker whose business model relies on selling cars directly to consumers, rather than through a network of third-party dealerships.

[The article adds] it’s easy to understand why some car dealers might feel a little threatened: Tesla’s Model S outsold the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8 last quarter without any help from them. If its business model were to catch on, consumers might find that they don’t need the middle-men as much as they thought.

The bladderwort, named for its water-filled bladders that suck in unsuspecting prey, is a relative of the tomato. The finding overturns the notion that this repetitive, non-coding DNA, popularly called "junk" DNA, is necessary for life.

This is likely coming from someone that has never had a wife or girlfriend change the locks on an apartment that is rented in her name only. Good luck getting your papers and effects when that happens.
