Apparently timothy is too busy burying unflattering stories about his employer to bother reading what he's posting to the front page.

An organization that was formerly one of the major hubs of open-source and free software has hijacked the downloads of a major free software project, and is using that to push malware to their users. Do you seriously think that's non-newsworthy, especially to the Slashdot readership? WTF, do you work for Dice too?

Several of the submitted stories have been fairly well-sourced, and I haven't seen anything to suggest that they aren't true.

Until the Slashdot staff grows some balls and allows the story through, writing off-topic posts is the best we'll get.

It took the readers revolting over the Slashdot beta and making the comment sections unusable for the /. editors to descend from on high and even deign to address the complaints. Maybe something similar needs to happen here. Those with mod points (unfortunately I don't now) should at least mod up these posts, which reference a story that the readers here are obviously interested in but which /. finds embarrassing to their parent company.

Anyone remember when /. would have gleefully called out any company trying to pull this sort of stunt? Now it's degraded to the point where the staff is actively complicit in this sort of behavior.

No it doesn't. Losses are related to current, not AC vs. DC. A higher current in the same sized conductor equates to higher loss. You can get around this by raising the voltage (traditionally easier with AC), thus transferring the same amount of energy with less current, or you can increase the size of the conductor. DC can actually transfer more energy than AC on a similar sized conductor because it doesn't have to deal with skin effect.
