According to AppleInsider, Apple representatives working with memebers of the iPhone developer program have been pushing developers who plan to give away their product for free to "consider charging [money] at some point". While it's easy to see that Apple is doing so to ensure profits (they run the App Store, after all) it seems a bit shady to renege on their first statement of allowing developers to give their applications away for free.
