TheNextCorner writes: "NASA's twin spacecraft to study the moon from crust to core are nearing their New Year's Eve and New Year's Day main-engine burns to place the duo in lunar orbit.

Named Gravity Recovery And Interior Laboratory (GRAIL), the spacecraft are scheduled to be placed in orbit beginning at 1:21 p.m. PST (4:21 p.m. EST) for GRAIL-A on Dec. 31, and 2:05 p.m. PST (5:05 p.m. EST) on Jan. 1 for GRAIL-B."

The device featured a touchscreen, but it had a monochrome look and implemented a stylus for input. Its design heavily leans on white, and is indicative of Apple’s 1980s product design scheme (and, to some degree, its present day one)."

An anonymous reader writes: Chris Coyer at css-tricks.com has had his domain transferred from GoDaddy.com to a registrar in Australia where it's being held for ransom. Several other domains have experienced the same theft by what seems to be the same person, and the registrars seem helpless to do anything about it.

Each lightning burst creates electromagnetic waves that begin to circle around Earth captured between Earth's surface and a boundary about 60 miles up. Some of the waves – if they have just the right wavelength – combine, increasing in strength, to create a repeating atmospheric heartbeat known as Schumann resonance....

NASA's Vector Electric Field Instrument (VEFI) aboard the U.S. Air Force's Communications/Navigation Outage Forecast System (C/NOFS) satellite has detected Schumann resonance from space. This comes as a surprise, since current models of Schumann resonance predict these waves should be caged at lower altitude, between the ground and a layer of Earth's atmosphere called the ionosphere."
