An anonymous reader writes: In case this is of interest: I was about to update DivX when I saw it wanted to include conduit as part of the update... Conduit is regarded as malware. In many threads of the divx forums, the company is jumping in and defending their decision. Seems their main "excuse" is that they also provide detailed instruction on how to remove conduit.

An anonymous reader writes: Changes to the russian civil code, which include the recognition of open licenses, or the right for libraries to generate digital copies of certain works, were now signed by the russian president and come into force on October 1st. According to Wikimedia-RU member Linar Khalitov, 'these changes are a result of a lot of hard work on behalf of Wikimedia-RU [...] – proposing, discussing and defending amendments to the Code.'

You do not have to add people one by one to the post visibility/privacy on your facebook posts. You can create groups of people and add the group, just like the circles on Google+.

I have the same CPU usage issue in Chrome. Also it consumes memory at the rate of 8KB a second until the slashdot page is closed, never releasing any.

The new design consumes 8KB of memory every second until the window is closed. Looks like objects are not being destroyed properly. It also uses a lot of CPU!

Cooking Mama is a series of games for the Wii and the DS in which players go through a number of steps to prepare meals using a variety of recipes. Last week, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) created their own Flash-based parody of the game, highlighting the use of meat products by having a more bloody-minded Mama do things like pull the internal organs from a Thanksgiving turkey. Cooking Mama's maker, Majesco, issued a light-hearted response, pointing out the vegetarian meals in the game. PETA then said they plan to continue making parody games as a way of "engaging the public."

Gamasutra reports on comments from Stardock CEO Brad Wardell in which he described his efforts to revive two old but popular franchises: Star Control and Master of Orion. Quoting: "'I actually pitched Atari on a whole idea for a true successor to Star Control,' [he said], noting that the game would follow original series developer Toys for Bob's Star Control II rather than the Legend Entertainment-developed Star Control 3 ('We just pretend that never happened,' the CEO says of that release). ... Novato, California-based Toys for Bob has actually floated the idea of making its own Star Control II sequel, with co-creator Paul Reiche III indicating he has tossed potential design ideas around, but with the company now owned by publisher Activision the proposal seems to be stuck in limbo."
