I can't decide on a single best webcomic, so that would be either Subnormality, Wapsi Square or Sequential Art.

Funniest would be either Girls With Slingshots, Two Guys and Guy or Shit Happens! (yeah, sorry - it's in German only).

Best art is again either Subnormality, Zebra Girl or Power Nap.

And the most relevant comic to me in 2012 definitely was Wapsi Square, the first thing I check in the morning after getting up (also going by the amount of prints I bought)...

Honorable mentions: Hobotopia, Bear Nuts, Modest Medusa, Flaky Pastry and Hate Farm.

Except that was a hoax:

"Updated 3:40 p.m ET.

Reports that veteran Hollywood actor Bruce Willis is reportedly looking to take on Apple in a bid to pass on his vast music collection to his children after his death have been disputed. The claims, which were originally reported by The Daily Mail have been debunked by Willis' wife via Twitter."

Text Message Spammer Wants FCC To Declare Spam Filters Illegal 338

TCPALaw writes "ccAdvertising, a company purported to have 'a long, long, long history of pumping spam out of every telecommunications orifice, and even boasting of voter suppression' has asked the FCC to declare spam filters illegal. Citing Free Speech rights, the company claims wireless carriers should be prohibited from employing spam filters that might block ccAdvertising's political spam. Without stating it explicitly, the filing implies that network neutrality must apply to spam, so the FCC must therefore prohibit spam filters (unless political spam is whitelisted). In an earlier filing, the company suggests it is proper that recipients 'bear some cost' of unsolicited political speech sent to their cell phones. The public can file comments with the FCC on ccAdvertising's filing online."

Researchers Develop Surveillance System That Can Watch & Predict 106

hypnosec writes "Carnegie Mellon university researchers have developed a surveillance system that can not only recognize human activities but can also predict what might happen next. Scientists, through the Army-funded research dubbed Mind's Eye, have created intelligent software that recognizes human activities in video and can predict what might just happen next; sounding an alarm if it detects anomalous behavior. Except that here they're using the ability to pass command line options to source engine games started via the steam URL handler to create their log file in a certain location with a certain name (like "foo.bat" in the startup folder) then using the echo command via the same URL parameter to log anything they want into that file - and I'm pretty sure a batch file containing "del /s c:\" in there won't be very much appreciated the next time the user logs on...
