Google Desktop for Mac OS released today

manastungare writes: "Google released version 1 of their Google Desktop for Mac today. The primary interface is via an on-screen search box à la QuickSilver, and more results are available via a web UI. It indexes the most common file types and GMail, plus every file type that has a metadata importer for Spotlight. In preliminary tests, search performance was much better than Spotlight, but the app requires administrator privileges to install and run, which is a major setback for an otherwise decent release. It does not include features such as the sidebar or the widgets that the Windows version has."
