Comment You NEED to take a vacation (Score 1) 140

For the people that noted what's a vacation, you need to get a life.

my recent vacations have been where there are few phones. I'd occasionally manage to get a wi-fi connection to exchange a few emails.

From a highway, I've walked to where there is no cell service, in the Northeast US. On a sailboat, no land in sight ....
I worked in the cell phone industry in the '90's, starting in '90. I knew about being connected before it was popular.

Yes.
But, not quite.
The original paper was papyrus.
no one would waste cotton for making paper.
You're confusing the current rag process with historic paper making.
paper made 200 years ago does not yellow and fade. Modern manufacturing uses an acid process. When wood pulp was first used to make paper this was not how it was done. Wood pulp paper made without acid lasts.

perhaps you're confusing parchment with paper.
Parchment is animal skin, shaved thin.
It's what the magna carta is written on.

Good point. But everyone, and everyday is different. I've had inspired days when I worked 12 hours. My blood was up and concentration was good. I've had bad days when I caught up on email, admin, documenting, etc. no point in trying to code, nothing productive would result.
old school management is a classic fail

I agree the ploy is stupid. Another small bomb in a much larger battle.

As for the author of the title of this bit, of course he hates the rules. but that's not what the title article is about.

On the other hand.
The truly off the grid sites in the tropics are regularly powered by solar. Though there's likely an emergency diesel hiding somewhere. Just in case.
There are a lot of places where solar is the most economical solution.
