DigitalGlobe recently launched it's newest satellite, which features 31cm resolution (just over 12 inches).
The images were taken from another DigitalGlobe satellite. A neat way of demonstrating what you can do when you own multiple satellites.
The new satellite has the highest resolution imaging capability of any civilian satellite.
There's a good video of the launch at the bottom of the page http://time.com/3120150/satell...

http://slashdot.org/comments.p... it was up for over a week. suddenly TROLL! why?
I am regularly asked to comment, this baffles me.
I made a comment openly opposing open source for everything. does that make it a troll?

This is Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Lessig.
I am stunned.
In the last 24 hours, literally thousands of PCCC members responded to our call of Mayday! — and donated to our "Super PAC to end all Super PACs."
Our ambitious goal is to raise $5 million by the end of July 4, to declare our independence from the big-money funders who hold our democracy hostage. We have one day left!
We just passed $3.3 million raised. I don't know where we'll end up by midnight tomorrow, but between now and then, we need to give this everything we've got.
Can you watch our video explaining MayDay PAC — and with just one day left, chip in $3 to help take back our democracy?
http://act.boldprogressives.or...
This has always been a long shot. And until today, our shot was looking even longer.
But I'm seeing a glimmer of hope. Every minute, new people are coming in to save our democracy.
If you've been waiting to pledge, or learn more about this, now is the time.
Watch our MayDay PAC video. And chip in $3 or more to be part of history.
With hope,
Lawrence Lessig

With 8 days to go Mayday's https://mayday.us/ 2nd round of funding is coming up short.
Recent stories in the news, such as http://www.newsweek.com/new-su... have highlighted this bold approach at campaign funding reform.
The first round had a goal of $1 million, and raised $1.2 million. The second round goal is $5 million, and is currently at a little under $2 million.
I first heard about Mayday from a slashdot story, during the first round of funding. Others might be interested in an up date.

It will list all my mail boxes, but will only access one.
NOT the one I care about. multiple mailbox access is totally broken.
I had to delete the mailbox it wanted to use fortunately one that is backed up elsewhere.
Still can't access my other email accounts
Utter failure! (was so tempted to milk this story and say udder)
way to go guys

The first comment or two get all the responces, even if they are stupid.
Most just add to the noise
Instead of defaulting to showing all comments, only showing the first comment for a thread; and in cases where the first comment was deemed to be flamebait not bothering to show the thread at all.
Looking at comments on a post over a few hours old is waste of time. Too much filtering the crap.

Deadly forest fires are just one aspect of global warming.
Sandy was another one.
When will the average person connect the dots?
This is a horribly sad story. Too many things went wrong. Everyone involved on the ground is dead. Everyone should be screaming, WHY?
The people that put them there need to be investigated. If only to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Better to let the fire burn than kill so many firefighters.
The US southwest is a tinderbox, this will happen again.

Several news source are reporting the likelihood of an impressive show of the Aurora Borealis visible as far south as even Washington DC this evening. NPR and AccuWeather http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/dazzling-northern-lights-antic-1/10107004 both have the story. Check the map, if you're in a fair to good zone head out after sunset to see the show.
