... if you can be bothered to reboot. I have a perfectly good Windows installation for gaming on my multi boot PC. I just can't be bothered to use it so I play whatever's available on the "other operating systems" natively and whatever works fine in Wine. At this point, I think only Witcher 3 is capable of making me reboot.
... you indenture your first born to Microsoft in exchange for using their apps.
Also, you are liable for patent fees.
We know better than you how to organize your mail.
They can keep it.
... looks like an attempt to restrict free speech from a little closer to Hungary. The current regime has serious totaliarian tendencies and this tax (which will raise internet connection prices) leaves less avenues of communication for the Hungarian citizens.
Note the prices for an internet connection; at 30 gbytes/month, this tax could double the entry level price. At the average salary in Hungary, the extra $18 will be felt.
... their software will look like a 2000 era flash app made by a 13 year old, be even slower than that and receive absolutely no updates; if there is even a minor problem with the standard, you will have to buy a new adapter to get the fix.
Norton Utilities 6.0 *was* DOS
You're saying their "enterprise products" aren't bloated, useless, fearmongering piles of crap?
Maybe that's why they're splitting, no one who has experienced the consumer products will believe that.
Is Symantec doing anything useful?
I think the last useful version of Norton Utilities was 6.0, which was before the Symantec buyout?
Now they're just marketing fear...
... it doesn't mean they're not out to get you
But as several others said, I see this as more of a threat to Google's business model than to the internet.
Do AMD linux graphic drivers actually work now? Last time I checked on winehq, there were a lot more people complaining about graphics problems on cards than on Nvidia cards...
It's not a generic term. Call it "Windows Decay" by its proper name. I don't know of any other operating systems that have this problem.
The iPhone 6 comes with 1 Gb of memory. And has options for 16, 64 and 128 Gb of storage.
Why does this even get published?
I still run my own handmade gateway box, but it's Atom based and uses next to no power.
I'm not giving up on it because it's sometimes handy when you work from home.
Other than that, backups on usb connected drives and 1.3 computers per person in the household is enough
Swift is a programming language. Anyone can write a different compiler for it. Open sourcing Apple's LLVM frontend would be nice, but is not required.
If it's not open sourced and no one does a Swift implementation, we'll be exactly in the same situation as before. You had to write Java for Android and Objective C for iOS. Now you'll have to write Java for Android and Swift for iOS. I fail to see how that changes anything, except Swift being slightly less annoying thatn ObjC.
90% of the article serves to show that the author doesn't understand the difference between a programming language and the libraries provided by OS X. The other 10%... well I didn't notice what it was about.
And this crap makes Slashdot...
If the 5S and 6 have comparable performance, it means the 5S remains a long term option across OS upgrades. No need to keep a tablet in your pocket...
