Why is this exactly in Your Rights Online? Are /.ers so afraid of entering their ZIP code anywhere?

Some people believe that broadband is a right. At the very least, it is a sign that we're not an undeveloped nation. Access to communication can help citizens become more informed and involved (whether it actually does is another question). Unfortunately, many people across the US have limited or no options. I'm one of those people with only one option.

Local Motors of Chandler, Ariz., is running the competition, officially known as the Experimental Crowd-derived Combat-support Vehicle (XC2V) Design Challenge, through March 10. It’s not so different from when multiple users edit a page on Wikipedia, Local Motors CEO John Rogers said. “Effectively, we want to co-create all aspects of a vehicle,” Rogers explained. “The Wikipedia method of co-creation is really not far off from the way we talk about it."

In spite of China censoring Middle East protests, now known as "Jasmin Revolutions", Chinese people are inspired. Instructions for participating are being censored, help re-posting is requested. They keep disappearing, and then popping up everywhere on the net, and being censored again. Yes, I used the google translated version to understand Chinese.

Hugh Pickens writes writes: "LiveScience reports that James Batelli, the police chief of Mahwah, N.J., and his detectives conduct seminars that teach parents how to outfit a computer with keystroke logging software, giving them access to the full spectrum of the kids' online activities. Batelli explains that kids put themselves in potentially dangerous situations online every day, especially on Facebook, where they run the risk of coming into contact with child predators who troll the social networking site. "Read the paper any day of the week and you’ll see an abduction [or] a sexual assault that’s the result of an Internet interaction or a Facebook comment,” says Batelli. "When it comes down to safety and welfare of your child, I don’t think any parent would sacrifice anything to make sure nothing happens to their children." But not everyone agrees with Batelli's recommendations. “It’s a slippery slope to spy on your kids,” says Edi Goodman, chief privacy officer for Identity Theft 911, who has two young children. “Hopefully I can teach my kids the skill sets to be aware about these [online] dangers, because I can’t be with them all the time.”"

OopsIDied writes: Sony has updated their ToS/Service Agreement to include permission to "monitor and record your activities and communications." Accepting these new terms is required in order to use the Playstation Network which is necessary for a wide variety of PS3 activities.

I can imagine a couple reasons why BitTorrent might be throttled. First, I'd bet BitTorrent users are sending and receiving a lot more traffic than the average user. ... If BitTorrent users want faster speeds, I'd recommend finding ways to make the BitTorrent landscape less populated by illegal warez. ... But, until that happens, I really don't care if ISP throttle or cut BitTorrent traffic entirely. ...

Or perhaps ISPs should actually provide the bandwidth that they advertise (not to mention "unlimited" data transfer)?
