Comment Who is publishing this? (Score 1) 172

What publisher is actually gonna take this on? Most gamers would die of boredom very very quickly with this. Most gamers get bored with MW2 and BFBC2 after only a short period. Maybe if they took out the gore they could market this as a TEEN game but otherwise this will be a Crash and Burn no win situation for the publisher.

Comment Re:Why not more options? (Score 1) 342

Only problem with Demos is that all the current demos I've played either require you to pre-order the game or the developers spend extra time on the demo to hype the game and when the game actually is released its only resemblance to the demo is maybe some of the art and parts of the storyline...and these usually don't fit in anywhere.

Comment Who actually wrote this study? (Score 1) 342

Whoever did this study must not been a real gamer(s). If someone would make a good game with 10 hours of actual gameplay I would completely endorse them. I own both ME1 and ME2 and have pre-ordered ME3, these games are single player and I have gone thru ME2 including all the DLC at least twice. I also love Fable, currently replaying Fable III for the second time. And don't even get me started on classics like Zelda, Final Fantasy Series, or any of the or Guild Wars. On the other hand some friends and I play the hell out of ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead. My big issue and what most gamers have said is that the current crop of games just SUCK!

What they should have said was that some people prefer short games. Why those people pay $50+ for a short game that really isn't fun is beyond me. But each person has their own opinion.

Comment Codemasters Has Gone Down the Drain (Score 1) 162

Codemasters has really lost a ton of their fan base recently...Mainly due to screwing up the Operation Flashpoint franchise. Even their multiplayer servers for OP:Dragon Rising were completely buggy and they never did get a patch to fix it. Now the next installment is coming out with a metascore of 63....WOW!!

What happened to you guys. The first Operation Flashpoint was so ahead of its time and a great game.

Submission + - RIM co-CEO stomps off in huff (bbc.co.uk)

DamonHD writes: "The BBC asks in an interview if "security" issues for example in the Middle East and India have now been resolved and Mike Lazaridis throws a hissy fit. It seems to me the question is fair, however uncomfortable."

Comment Re:PC Gaming Alliance is a Joke (Score 1) 163

First PC games don't have to specifically support a TV in order to be played on a TV. All new TVs come with a DVI, VGA, S-Video, or Composite port(s). And PC video drivers all come with TV support native. You can buy any of the cable configurations 6' long for $5 and a 30' is between $10 and $20 depending on which type of cable your needing.

Second you can go to Walmart and buy a $450 computer that will run most games on medium to low graphics and they will still look better than console games due to the fact that PCs have better processing power even if your using an on-board video card.

and Last anyone who is buying these games probably has a job and is out of the house for at least 8 hrs a day. Start it to DLing in the morning and when you get home hit the "Play" button...really not a problem. I downloaded Bad Company 2, which happens to be over 8GB, while I was at work one day and I live in a rural area where the broadband may say its 10MB down but every time I check it is less than 6.5MB at the most.

Submission + - Power supplies

zerocool6900 writes: Have a question for the rest of you, I just purchased the parts to build a new computer...all except the power supply because I wanted some advice. I have looked at a local store and they have a Thermaltake and a Rocketfish (?). Thermaltake I've heard of and used before, problem is its about $50 more for 250W less than the Rocketfish.

So my question is has anyone used the Rocketfish brands? Any horror stories out there that I should know about?

Submission + - People have "right to be forgotten" online -- EU (pcpro.co.uk)

nk497 writes: The European Commission wants to strengthen data protection rules to give more power to consumers – including the right to be forgotten online. Legislation it's looking to push through next year will let consumers know when and how their data is being used, and force companies to delete it when asked. “People should be able to give their informed consent to the processing of their personal data,” the commission said in a statement. “They should have the 'right to be forgotten' when their data is no longer needed or they want their data to be deleted.”

Matt_dk writes: While sorting through hundreds of galaxy images as part of the Galaxy Zoo citizen science project two years ago, Dutch schoolteacher and volunteer astronomer Hanny van Arkel stumbled upon a strange-looking object that baffled professional astronomers. Two years later, a team led by Yale University researchers has discovered that the unique object represents a snapshot in time that reveals surprising clues about the life cycle of black holes.

Submission + - Harry Potter threatens owl population in India (greenfudge.org)

An anonymous reader writes: Since the Harry Potter movies became popular in India, more and more parents have granted their kids the wish to follow in Harry Potter’s footsteps (who owns a snow owl named Hedwig) by allowing them to have their own white owl. An increasing number of people have been reported to buy owls from illegal bird and wildlife traders, who see the financial benefits of the trade but forget the importance of the wild owls for India’s fragile eco-systems.

Submission + - Zeus Attackers Turned The Tables On Researchers (darkreading.com)

ancientribe writes: The attackers behind a recent Zeus Trojan exploit that targeted quarterly federal taxpayers who file electronically also set up a trap for researchers investigating the attack as well as their competing cybercrime gangs. They fed them a phony administrative panel with fake statistics on the number of Zeus-infected machines, as well as phony "botnet" software that actually gathers intelligence on the researcher or competitor who downloads it.

Comment Seriously??? (Score 1) 462

Maybe these bozos should worry about making a descent game before worrying about pirating...Operation Flashpoint was way ahead of its time when it came out...Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising was the worst game I've bought in the entire past two years. Whether your games are being pirated or not is no reason to make a game that bad. Hell the pre-order price was 59.95 within two months I could buy it on Steam for $10. As far as the scheme for DLC is concerned they didn't have any. I still boot it up every now and again to see if they may have done something right but now they have even completely stopped supporting the game. Why should people purchase a half finished game from a company who has shown that instead of finishing a game and providing DLC for it they just give up and move on?
