People who really care about audio quality don't buy Creative hardware anyway. That's for gamers. If you want sound quality there are many cards with cheap but excellent chipsets. Via Envy24 codes and Wolfson DACs are the preferred combination, and cards with them cost under a tenner.

Much better to spend the money on better speakers or a headphone amp. If you really want high end sound get an external DAC.

Don't mistake the last few year's of flat lining for proof that climate change isn't happening. Climate change is the long term trend, not the last few years.

The vast majority of the scientific community agrees that the models are fairly representative of what we can expect. No model will every be perfect, that would be a simulation. Deniers just keep finding ever more minute flaws or things that they (deliberately) misinterpret to confirm their doubt, but that doesn't change the fact that any scientifically rigorous study will conclude that there is a serious problem we need to address.

No, because in that case you never knew the keys yourself. The whole thing hinges on the police being able to prove that you, at the time of asking, know what the password is but are simply refusing to divulge it.

Harmonization of rules like this is the point of the EU. If someone in Italy starts ripping off the work of someone in France the French person doesn't have to worry about Italian law being significantly different to his own. Companies that rely on copyright to do business can operate over EU borders more easily, people can buy music from services in other EU countries without worrying about the copyright status of the tracks in their own.

It's true that you have to take care to actually use the deniable data, and make it look plausible. If it turns out to be a bunch of files you haven't touched for years it would look suspicious. That doesn't mean it can't be done though.

The key is that they have to prove you had control over it. If you have lost control, because you forgot the key or because they destroyed it, you can't be held responsible. If you destroy the key that would come under simple destruction of evidence.

That's why you need two factor authentication. A password and a keyfile stored on floppy disk. Ideally an old floppy disk with multiple read errors. If you are arrested you can say that the police must have damaged the disk.

Alternatively TrueCrypt's plausible deniability works well.

People have argued the right to not incriminate themselves right up to the European courts, but it was rejected. When you are arrested in the UK you are told that if you fail to mention when questioned anything you later rely on in court it may harm your defence, so there is no right to silence either.

What isn't clear from the story is if this guy just forgot his password or if he refused to hand it over. The law says that the police must prove you knew the password, e.g. by showing that you used it very recently.

LED bulbs sold in the EU must be lead free. The shops have to accept the dead ones back for recycling. The fact that they last a lot longer limits the environmental impact. The energy saved vs. incandescent can be used for other things that would produce a lot more pollution. The mistake of looking at technologies in isolation is a pretty common one when evaluating environmental impact.

Where do you draw the line? Some level of badness has to be classified as a fault, some limit on what bulbs must be capable of surviving must be set for the standards. You can't expect stuff to be indestructible (except Model M keyboards, obviously).
