Comment Stop printing so damn much! (Score 2) 180

All these destruction plans ignore the obvious: why did you print it to start with? In my office suite we have ~15 printers and one medium size shredder. I see people print 20 copies of prestentations(in color), then notice an error and reprint the whole thing. People will print a 100-page PDF to skim it one time.

and it's part of social security here (of course you get to pay a couple EURs a month for the privilege). But I guess this over-the-top socialist expropriation of financial assets doesn't resonate with the you folks across the ocean... but it does qualify for a good bullet point in the "benefits" employment contract section. Yep, us european are decadent spoilt brats... :P

How much is a "couple euro" to you? My German brother-in-law pays almost twice as much for the "privilege" than I pay for my medical and life insurance combined. I have no co-pay when I go to the doctor while his is 20 Euro. My widowed mother-in-law's retirement check has decreased four years in a row and prices have increased. Decadent indeed.

For that much data, I'd recommend just keeping the original HD-DVDs and Blu-ray media for your "20 GB" files, and the original CDs for your "3 MB" files. We are helping someone back up his music and audio collection, aren't we? And they won't be pirated, will they?

The idea of re-ripping ~2400 assorted CDs, DVDs, and BR (total 15tb) really does not appeal to me. So- I back it up, even though I have every one of the originals. Just because you don't understand something is not a reason to assume the person is doing something illegal.

All routers supplied by Verizon for FiOS service has a WAN side log-in port open, and they install firmware upgrades and you can do nothing about it. If you want FiOS you have to let them do whatever they want with the bits coming of the router at their end.

Not all of them, mine allows you to disable the automatic firmware and remote management. I still did not trust/like their router and put my own between the FIOS ONT and their router. Basically, their router now sits in my DMZ and is pretty much nothing but a MOCA adaptor for the set top boxes.

The problem with your logic is that you pretend it's either or. I will play a fun game with good graphics more than a fun game with OK graphics, especially on my 65" TV. Also, you're not typical - most people have gotten bored with their Wii.

I didn't say that I don't want gameplay AND graphics. But, If I have to make a choice, I choose gameplay. It seems too many games (and the consumers, I guess) choose graphics. But, If most people are bored with their wii, they still sell an awful lot of games. I have not played every game, but I find the wii games much more fun than the 360. But like I said, I am not a hard core gamer.

I don't buy a game for the graphics. I buy it because it is fun to play. I will play a fun game with ok graphics a lot more often than a bad game with awesome graphics. And most games lately are just copies of older games with improved graphics. I am a casual gamer. I have a Wii and a 360 - the Wii gets a lot more play time. I bought the wii on the day it was released and my daughter and I still play Mario Kart two or three times a week for an hour or so. Come to think of it, I am not even sure the xbox is plugged in.

I for one would love to see a Wii with 1080p output and a better web browser. Although really even upconverting to 720p would be a substantial improvement; right now you have to buy an additional cable just to get it all the way up to 480p.
