I have an early 2008 17" Macbook Pro that still does everything I need -- just max out the RAM and swap in a SSD, and it will keep up with modern-day work. The battery is still swappable, and batteries can still be bought for cheap. The display is crisp and very bright, which is handy when using it outdoors.
