No. Because. Fuck You. Association.

Only then we can have some peace. For the record, as a kid, I played most of the violent games of the day. I am hardly a violent person; in fact, I am mildly derided for not being aggressive. Maybe I had a proper outlet..

But what do I know. I am just a mass of inluences in the culture that propagates violence at every turn.

I know. Maybe we could ban wars. Wait, I know. People cause wars. Maybe we could ban people. That would prevent wars and violence. No people. No violence. No problem...

Microsoft

Submission + - Microsoft goes all in..kinda (marketwatch.com) 1

gale the simple writes: Well, Windows 8 is out on Friday and analysts decided to weigh in. Interestingly enough, the analysts cited in the article say that "people need something fresh and new" and even manages to call this time a post-pc era..
But before an average Slashdot reader has a chance to cringe, other analysts are little more sensible and cite problems with actual audience, lack of clear development direction and business customer's being picky.
Obviously, Microsoft is risking a lot now. More than it did with Vista. The question is, why are they listening to the analysts who think PC is over? Is it not a little counterproductive?

Submission + - Poland attempts to recall photos leaked online from US, Germany and Russia (diplonews.com)

gale the simple writes: "In a way indicating clear misconceptions about the way the internet works, Radoslaw Sikorski, foreign relations minister in Poland is attempting to recall gruesome photos of 2010 Smolensk crash and subsequent autopsies.
Not surprisingly, Russia and Ukraine obliged in an attempt to block the offending photos on their respective territories. Polish authorities made similar attempts.
Fortunately, those were thwarted simply because Germany and the US refused to cooperate citing freedom of speech and internal laws.
Full disclosure, since I am running a blog dedicated to Smolensk crash I follow it closely and, obviously, I have the offending photos. Not surprisingly, traffic immediately increased, most of it from Poland. People do not like being told what they can see.
Radoslaw Sikorski is about to learn first hand what slashdot effect is all about."

Submission + - OSCE slams Poland for lèse majesté sentencing of Robert Frycz (osce.org)

gale the simple writes: "Poland has been regressing lately in terms of human rights and basic freedoms, but it has been largely ignored by media.

Just today, a new, more restrictive assembly law was signed by Komorowski ( Wprost — original in Polish and ; Polish News Bulletin, in English ) .

But that law is just one of the series of recent ostensibly anti-democratic events in Poland. OSCE just slammed Poland for lèse majesté sentencing of ( Robert Frycz, .

Robert Frycz was sentenced in September for creating a webpage that made fun of the current ( president of Poland.

It is particularly amusing because just few days ago Komorowski was chastising Yanukovych for 'regression of democracy'.

Do as I say; not as I do.

It is hard to make the this stuff up."

Unfortunately, we won't know any time soon and anything else, at this point, is nothing but speculation. It is a shame, because I am starting the enjoy the ride. Pass the popcorn plz

I am always amused when I discuss freedom of speech in America. People have this beaten into their heads that they are free. When you tell them all the ways they are not they look like a kicked puppy.

On a not entirely unrelated note, my GF once told me that she does not want to read Mein Kampf because she is afraid she is going to be flagged... and she was a history major strongly interested in WW2. How can you possibly claim any expertise on the subject if you do not read sources? Even if they are forbidden knowledge:P

The anecdote with GF is to show that I think most people know something is wrong on a deep, unconscious level; they just do not want to rock the boat.
