However, he did have an amazing campaign, and that is actually a good way to judge fitness for president. This is what set him apart from Hillary Clinton for me. The president is just one man, who relies heavily on advisors and his cabinet to make decisions. He can't be expected to have the expertise to get the job done. The president is an executive office, it's all about managing the people around you. Really the best training is to run your own company, something that is sadly lacking from the field these days. A campaign is the biggest organization any of these candidates have ever run. Obama ran the most controlled campaign of both the primaries and the election. We see the results today. He has a cabinet that has had little drama despite having heavy hitters surrounding him. He's led the most productive liberal congress in a generation, that even recently has still pushed dramatic legislation despite a strong republican tide.

Someone like Palin doesn't impress me. Look at the way the McCain's campaign managers rebelled against her after the defeat. Look at how little control she has over her image in the media, she looks like a fool to most Americans. Democrats can rest easy if Palin is elected. She may have a radically different view of what the country should look like, but she won't be able to get a thing done.

But I thought that Wikileaks was part of the press, and that's why they need to be protected. When did we suddenly separate them from the "papers"? Maybe we should blame the papers, but Wikileaks published the cables too, so they are at least equally to blame.

Just today my spam filter sent an email from my mother straight to the junk mail box. We've come a long way in detecting the nature of a message or website, but we've got a long way to go. I've used filters before to keep crap out of my house, but have constantly run into trouble with false positives by the software. If the filtering is done at the ISP level, it will make it even harder for customers to correct these problems.

for the rich who got us into this economic mess, we increase the NSF grant by 8 times? I would love to have our economy powered by scientists who actually better the human condition, instead of those who play games with the stock market or con people out of their homes.

And I know the right will come back and complain about hurting "small business owners". I'm sorry Mr. CEO, but if raising your personal income tax by 2% means you can't hire someone, you have no idea how to run a business. Employees are supposed to generate revenue. Anyways, for every employee you supposedly can't hire, we're training a far more useful scientist.

For 60 billion a year, we could fund a million PhD students. How's that for an economy?
