This. This is the main reason I don't use any sort of social media. The secondary reason is it just seems like such a waste of time. I hardly have time to do everything I need to do in my own life, how could I possibly find time to read about what others are doing in their lives?

Yes, the only one in my neighborhood who has installed solar panels is also the poorest family in the neighborhood. The main reason they did it is because they didn't have to pay anything, and they are hoping that it will help lower their electricity bill.

Other than advice, why don't you tell her about yourself? What are your memories growing up? How did you and your wife meet (you wife can tell her, but you will have a different side of the story)? What do you remember about the day she was born? What memories stand out from when she was growing up? What are your happiest memories? What are things you are glad you did? Etc. Even if she doesn't appreciate them, your potential future grand-children might.

Your argument is the same as. "My uncle never smoked a day in his life and died of lung cancer. Smoking does not cause lung cancer". I know smokers who really do believe that.

I know of a family who has a child that is allergic to all nut, milk, wheat, dairy, eggs, some fruits, and probably a few more I can't remember. And these are deadly allergies, not just break out in a rash allergies. I have no idea what he eats, but I feel so sorry for him (and his family who has had to make sure none of those products, or products that might contain traces of those products, ever enter the home).

Do you not have children? It has been the established recommendation in every book I've ever read, from every pediatrician I've ever talked to, etc. not to give children peanuts/peanut butter before 36 months. I just did a google search out of curiosity and apparently there were a number of large scale studies that led to this recommendation.

Yes, but I have kids and we've always been told not to feed them peanuts till they are a certain age. Now it looks like that was bad advice. http://www.usatoday.com/story/... But, how do I know that a new study won't come out next year that will say "Hold everything! Giving babies peanuts is actually a deadly thing to do!" It's just so frustrating that it causes paralysis to set in since I don't know when to trust the science and when not to trust the science. In this case, the science is saying to give kids peanuts, but I think I'll stick with the old recommendations for my kids.

The question is, when do you know the science is "finished"? I swear every year there is a new study saying something is good for you, followed by more studies saying it's bad for you, then more saying it's good for you. Sometimes it seems like science flip-flops worse than a politician. I'm not saying that science or the scientific method isn't great, it's just hard to know when to know the final word is in to know whether it is beneficial to ingest some substance to improve my health.

I used to have a lot of respect for Bill, but the things I've been reading about him over the last few years make me thing that he might have onset something (Alzheimer?). How old is he? It feel like this is a kind of common thing. A person that I respected for many years gets older, starts saying crazy things, and loses all credibility. That unfortunately casts a shadow over all the good things they did before boarding the loony train.

Well, I installed Yosemite on four computers the day it came out. Two are laptops (one from early 2008 and the other from 2014), and two are desktops (again, one from early 2008 and the other from 2014). So far I've had 0 problems on any of the computers. So, in my experience, these issues are as widespread as you imply.

I don't have a problem with the length of the books, or the need for sequels. My problem is with Jordan's writing. For some reason the first book was fine, but the subsequent books? Not so much. I find Sanderson to be a far superior author to Jordan. I'd be find if the series still spanned 14 volumes, just as long as all 14 were written by Sanderson.

The quietest place I've ever been is back-country camping in Teton National Park. That is until one night when a large animal came sniffing around our tent. To this day I still don't know what it was, but it sounded large and suitably freaked us out ;-)
