To clarify (in the US): you don't pay sales tax on a home purchase, capital gains are taxed at a different rate than income, for investments, you only pay capital gains on the income, not the principal, and retirement income is taxed differently depending on the type of investment (Roth vs. 401k, e.g..).

I'm not saying tax system is fair, but there is much more to using the system wisely than your post would indicate.

There are two sides here. The "laid off" worker is still a human being, and it may be that he will have a better career and life ahead than those left behind. To be treated with total lack of dignity at such a moment leaves an indelible impression; I know because it happened to me once.

So, what I am saying is that karma is a bitch, to treat those you are letting go badly will come back on those who perpetrate it.

She lost the lawsuit, which if you read the facts of the case, she had only a slim chance to prevail. (She had an affair there, they had senior partners who were women, etc.) Made it look like they let her go so she sued to get even, then lost. Now she applies dumb logic to the hiring process, which some could argue shows that she is the one with the sexist POV. Reddit board should dump her if they get the chance.

Some misunderstanding that I will do my best to clarity:

1. An ounce is that name used for english units of both weight and volume, but they are not the same. I think your second sentence has them confused. (So much better to use metric for these discussions!)
2. The developer claims that one ounce of (typical) booze and one ounce of his stuff contain the same amount of alcohol. This infers that he meant the volume unit of ounce, and that his stuff is about 35% ethanol, which would be the case for typical vodka for example. The balance in vodka is water, the balance in his stuff is some kind of sorbent.
3. Even though I agree the weight savings and concentration of alcohol discussion about this powdered stuff is mostly confusion, his basic point I think is that powder is easier to pack and carry and less likely to spill than a liquid form of alcohol (I don't necessarily agree with him, just trying to provide some clarity.)

Comment Re:Astronaut-booze (Score 1) 421

Yes, you point out the facts of this; namely that typical strong alcohol at 70 proof is 35% ethanol. The balance is mostly water. This product is about that ratio of ethanol to some sorbent material that appears to go into solution if you add water.

If the legislature of those states who are alarmed just did a little homework, they would realize that this is much ado about nothing.

Common to most jobs etc., but as a read the attachments to TFA, I do feel that Amazon is really being heavy handed here with PT/Temp employees so shame on them. I buy A LOT of stuff on line, and Amazon, I will think twice before my next purchase from you.

A Final note to the "little guy" whom this may affect: these would be jury trials, and the jury would love to deny these BS antics from Amazon, and reward a counter suit for unfair practices with massive punitive awards. So take heart in that.
