Some people are rooting for a different team than the one that GG is commonly associated with. These sorts of hard-line mouth-breathers hold "the other teams" to a higher standard than their own.

I mean, we gave Bush 2 shots at the Executive position despite his destruction of two profitable businesses while at the helm.

From what I read of the reports, the Democrats were willing to cut spending on Medicaid and other programs IF the Republicans agreed to raise taxes for the wealthiest 2%. The shame in this case is clearly the Republicans failing to agree to a compromise. Instead of debating by how much to raise them, they're rejecting the idea outright. THAT my friends, is why I hope to see the day when the Republicans find themselves without any $$ during their campaigns.

I have come to a similar understanding. The Republicans are unwilling to accept any revenue increases while the Democrats are willing to accept cuts. The Republicans refuse to compromise. They are the issue.

On the upside, Obama promises to veto any attempts to avoid the automatic cuts. AND the Bush-Obama tax cuts, the Obama tax cuts and the unemployment extension will all expire at the end of the year. If the GOP won't compromise then nothing gets done and hey look...we've started down the path to solvency. But just a few steps...we'll need to raise more revenue and cut further over time to get back in the black. Which is fine. Steep cuts right now would crush the economy IMO.

Submission + - Ask Slashdot: Best way to structure personal notes

drusha writes: I'm a journalist. I've recently started keeping my daily notes of meetings, news items, etc. in a single long text file I edit in emacs in a quake-style terminal and keep in Dropbox.

It's very convenient, fast, and always there. The problem is that I'm structuring everything in a weird pidgin of wikiml, emacs outline format, and markdown. I'd like to adopt a standard format.

How do you guys structure your notes? Is there any markup syntax that's emerging as a standard? Also, are there any books on the topic?

Submission + - Facebook Data Collection Under Fire Again (computerworld.com)

JohnBert writes: "A German privacy protection authority is calling on organizations there to close their Facebook fan pages and remove the social networking site's "Like" button from their websites, arguing that Facebook harvests data in violation of German and European Union law.

The Independent Centre for Privacy Protection (ULD), the privacy protection agency for the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, issued a news release on Friday saying Facebook builds a broad, individualized profile for people who view Facebook content on third-party websites.

Data is sent back to Facebook's servers in the U.S., which the agency alleges violates the German Telemedia Act, the German Federal Data Protection Act and the Data Protection Act of Schleswig-Holstein. The agency alleges the data is held by Facebook for two years, and wants website owners in the state to remove links to Facebook by the end of next month or possibly face a fine."
