Baeowulf writes: Hey all. I'm the CEO and Sysadmin for a 9 person startup. We make software for the entertainment industry so we have, at any given time, about 4 terabytes of our own data and client data, growing at 1tb per year currently. In addition to our in-house Daily, Weekly and Monthly backups on RAID servers, for offsite I make my COO lug home ext hd's 3x per week. I need a TURNKEY solution for online offsite backup of this size that's economical for a startup. Encryption isn't critical but stability and ease-of-use is. For example, if my entire town was attacked by giant radioactive Japanese monkeys, I would want my chairman, who is on another coast, to be able to log in to our backup, navigate to a folder, and deliver a file to a client as if it was his desktop. I'm an expert level Windows user. I built all of our workstations from mainboard up. But linux is not something I know well, nor can I take the time to learn it as my job is also to invent and sell product. What's the community's advice for multi-terabyte online backup that's waaaay easy to use?

To sort out your own thinking AND create a presentation for the management, you may want to create a simple two-column list. Column 1 = Engineering Responsibilities, then Column 2 = I.T. Responsibilities After you create several drafts you should then ask management what the company priorities are. You should do this BEFORE presenting your list to management. After talking to management, rank your two lists in the order that management cares about. And present everything on one page. There should be no more than 3-5 priority items in each column and you should be able to explain WHY the responsibilities need to be excluded from Engineering.

The board of Bible.com claims that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than to make money on the domain name, but an angry shareholder disagrees. From the article: "James Solakian filed the lawsuit in Delaware's Chancery Court against the board of Bible.com for breaching their duty by refusing to sell the site or run the company in a profitable way. The lawsuit cites a valuation done by a potential purchaser that estimated bible.com could be worth more than dictionary.com, which recently sold for more than $100 million."

He knew a busy intersection was just ahead, and he had to act fast. Without consulting the passengers in his minivan — 'there was no time to take a vote' — Innes kicked into engineer mode.
