It's worth a try, you can always restore the router to it's default. It's not like you're flashing the firmware of the Actiontec, just changing some settings.

Do the same thing. Setup the Actiontec to ONLY speak DSL and pass through the PPPoE connection to your router of choice. Thus your router of choice does the PPPoE authentication, and does NAT, and optionally wifi.
