If we develop an AI from the ground up, we would get to specify all of its preferences. Should be fairly easy from there to omit 'dominate world/all life' from the list. I think this stands even with self-improving AI; changes in goal are not the same thing as improvements. Obviously we anthropomorphise/project when we think about these things, but our drive to dominate and our political urge for power are hangovers from our evolution, not things that you would necessarily expect to apply to any and all things that 'think'.

It does invite the question though - why is it (The OT) still so prevalent. Why is it still being quoted to settle arguments in a modern context? The bits hating on gays are fine, but oh let's ignore that crazy stuff about mixed fabrics? Why? What informs these choices? It isn't the Bible. It takes all of itself equally, pitiably, seriously.

You know, because that's a thing that usually happens in football matches.

You thought you were being sarcastic, but nope, it happens. Maybe not usually, but often enough for it to be perfectly believable without dark conspiracies.

Perhaps someone paid to lose a game might go about it in a slightly subtler manner?
