Comment Re:This is TOTALLY okay (Score 1) 202

Government has a troubling history of using private citizens as proxy agents to do things for which they are prohibited.

We are not OK with Google sharing or selling our data to government without court oversight. That seems to be this private companies only business model. They are effectively owned by law enforcement in all but name.

Comment Waxing? (Score 1) 94

I wax my car several times a year, both to protect the paint with a sacrificial barrier and to make it really shine (Klasse + Pinnacle for anyone who cares). I use a clay bar once a year as well.

I'm guessing at best the wax will defeat the repellant qualities of the paint, and at worst the paint may repel the wax.

I can see this as being good for for people who can't be bothered with keeping their car clean. Probably not so much for people who care.

My city's water supply comes from Shoal Lake, via a near 100 year old aqueduct. There are local reservoirs to store some in case of disruption.

Of course the native bands that live there are not really happy about the whole thing.....

I rather expect a lot of them piss in the water quite purposely every day, and people here know it.

It is an act of symbolism, but it does not stop normal people from drinking the water.

I work in the public sector, not a publicly funded university, but absolutely I assume that all of my company email is potentially subject to FOI requests and govern myself accordingly.

If it was my personal email I would feel differently, but you should not use your companies account for personal business either. That is dumb.

Agreed. I work with networks, not servers, but both groups in my org have an overbearing CAB policy.

For security issues or imminent catastrophes absolutely we grudgingly jump through the hoops.

For functionality enhancements or proactive hardware or configuration changes, it's not worth the aggravation. Far more efficient for the organization as whole to just let it fail and then fix it without hoops. Hopefully during regular business hours.
