Ukraine was a Russian province during Tsarist Russia, and then part of the Soviet Union. Perhaps we could say they're just taking that land back?

I think the word "rebel" is more appropriate than terrorist. I'd save terrorist for people who blow bombs for a political agenda, not for armies that take over cities.
Separatist have motive - they are trying to shoot Ukrainian military planes
I agree to that, I had come to say the same. The whole thing doesn't make sense if done intentionally by Russia, because it makes them look bad - they don't gain anything from it.
The most likely thing is that they mistook the civilian plane for military, and just shot.
It seems that adding Metro UI to Windows 8 has resulted in their tablets and phones going from 1% to 2%. Was the whole exercise worth it?
Insulin resistance doesn't magically get cured by eating right and exercising.
That's true, eating right and exercising prevent you from getting it in the first place. But once you've gotten it, they can't undo it, it's too late by then.
Yes, ultimately they were all "consenting adults". But did the board act against the shareholders' interests? Ultimately, it's the shareholders who appoint the board, so even then they should blame only themselves.
As Stalin said "Cadres are a key to everything" - meaning be careful who you appoint to what. The shareholders should have thought about who they are appointing as directors, and the board (if the shareholders appointed them well) should have thought about who they appoint as CEO.
It's sad that they got bought just at the moment when Microsoft's CEO was going to change. I fully expect the new CEO to soon admit that the mobile market has been lost forever, and discard Nokia. In the end, all the Nokia saga would have been for nothing.
No humor, I really thought it was not available. Is it stable? Why did the parent list it as a reason then?
One other thing I really like is how they use the Makefiles as a package manager, and how the Makefiles themselves are under version control. It's a really elegant solution, basically they created Debian's apt without coding anything, using only existing tools.
Second, ZFS
From what I've read about ZFS, it sounds like it comes from science fiction. Built-in snapshots and copy-on-write, are you kidding me? Too bad there's nothing comparable in Linux. Well, there is btrfs, but it is not stable last I heard. Why can't they just port ZFS to Linux?
the disasters are already happening
But those "disasters" are insignificant. They are more like warnings than real catastrophes. Even if there is bad weather, it hasn't caused people to go hungry yet. If that happens, they'll start paying attention. Oh, and I mean going hungry in America and Europe, not in Africa.
But how do you know it was like that? I haven't read the original French review, and I can't know if the blogger didn't contact TechDirt with only her own side of the story. I personally don't feel I can make any judgements by the TFA, you'd have to read the court documents to make a conclusion if their decision was fair.
Oh, I didn't even mean that about TFA, I was responding to the "Freedom of Expression... is a completely unknown concept in France." comment by parent. He acted like in the US you can speak anything you like without any consequences whatsoever, which is clearly long even in the US, because you can be sued for slander.
As for TFA, I don't know if the court made the correct decision, because I don't know French and I can't read the review in its original to gauge if it was offensive or untrue. It's not just what you say, but how you say it. And if you're lying or not, too.
I remember reading that people would post negative reviews on Yelp! and ask restaurant owners to pay to remove them. I don't know about the US, but I'd prefer if this nasty tactic isn't protected by the Constitution in Europe. I even found the link - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.... What do you think about that? According to your First Amendment, this man has a right to do that. I'm glad that at least in Europe, a restaurant owner can drag this kind of person to court.
