Uber isn't stupid. They know the existing transport monopolies are maintained due to political connections aka lobbying. Uber knows there is no way it will be able to upset this status quo without support from local politicians. That, unfortunately, means lobbying. Love it or hate it, it's how things get done these days.

Perhaps the input images they used were also low-res? If they had used higher resolution photos it would have taken much more computing time to run them through the neural network for hundreds of iterations. I guess the same neural networks could also enhance the resolution of the images by being fed a scaled-up version and outputting it with more (imagined) detail.

Since transfats were invented do to a regulation of diet by the government in the 60's, I'm fine with it. Bring back tallow in my McDonald's frys.

In my experience 200% font scaling has worked fine since Windows XP. There are very few apps which don't handle it right - although a few things such as the command prompt remain unscaled. It probably helps to turn off the Aero crap though.

I use a couple of 24" 4k monitors. Just set 200% font scaling and you have things appearing the same size by default as they would on a 1920x1080 monitor with normal font scaling. But they look much better rendered, and if you want you can zoom out to smaller text sizes while remaining legible.

Yup. Neither are AK-47-style rifles. Again, easy to buy even in CA. They just have to have a guard on the magazine release which requires a tool access.

Exactly. California is one of the worse. If a person has a "on list lower" they have to have a DOJ letter to own it, otherwise it is a felony. The same gun with the lower swapped out, can be legal. It makes no sense. I wish they would remove the Roberti-Roos and series list laws and just go with feature-only.

It is not an "assault rifle" if it does not feature "A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon." So depending on the grip that is attached to that lower, it is fine. Also, no flash suppressors, folding or telescoping stock, thumbhole stock, or grenande launchers. It also must not be a .50 BMG. The other option is to "permanently" attach a magazine that holds ten or fewer rounds of ammunition to the lower. If the rifle sticks within these parameters, then it is not an assault rifle.

There are plenty of guns in California that are based on the AR-15, AR-10, and AK-47 platforms that comply with the law.

Google hires people based on talent. Women and minorities are under-represented in the technical and engineering community. That is a fact of life. Until more women and minorities CHOOSE to enter this field, getting a "diverse workforce" would have to mean you exclude more qualified white males in order to hire less qualified minorities and women.

Think about that for a moment. Suppose hospitals did things this way? If you need critical brain or heart surgery, do you want your surgeon to be one of the best in his or her field, or one that was a "diversity hire"?

Until you're comfortable with the second option, this "diversity" idiocy needs to stop. It's one thing to exclude perfectly qualified candidates because they're female or minority. It's another thing to make that the primary reason you're hiring them instead of making sure they're the best qualified for the job.

Sadly this snippet does not work in recent perl versions (I tried 5.18). 'each window' for example now needs to be 'each %window' since hashes must always have the % prefix. (In ancient perl versions the % was added implicitly if not given)

Can't you just copy in the minesweeper.exe file from an older Windows version and run it? Who knows, if you do an upgrade from 7 to 10 it most likely will be still there.

Acorn's PC emulator emulated an 8086 (not 80186). There are a couple of extra instructions added in the later 80186. Not much software uses them but apparently the game Star Trek 25th Anniversary did. Dave Lawrence's FasterPC emulator provided a virtual 80186 (though the CPU emulation was still just as slow, the video support was faster and PC speaker emulation much better, so it could play many DOS games that used 320x200 res in 256 colours. Like Civilization...)
