Comment Ouch. (Score 0) 246

Whether £10-20m is net or gross... its still a pretty paltry sum if they're being showcased as an example of "pirating leads to success". Iron Maiden has had years to build their brand and they started before piracy was as prevalent--so they rightfully should be earning royalties and income from earlier investments. Unfortunately this model doesn't work for 99% of the musicians who don't have a large bankroll from earlier times.

Comment TaxAct (Score 2) 237

I've been using TaxAct.com for 4+ years for personal taxes and it is fantastic. Super cheap and reliable.. All information from previous years is stored on their servers so each year it gets easier to file. Unlike healthcare.gov, I trust their site, it works, is easy to use, cheaper than anything else, and they didn't the taxpayers a half billion dollars on the rollout.

You can't see how this law will exacerbate outsourcing, downsizing, layoffs and massively increase the federal government? Retirees and the poor have had Medicaid and Medicare and still will... but Obamacare has done nothing to reduce the cost of healthcare such as tort reform to reduce malpractice insurance. And yes, Obamacare will make it that much harder to be an independent worker or small business owner.

That is true, but in this instance, this was a no-bid contract. And for hundreds of millions of dollars (do you realize how many programmer hours that buys?!) this is a fiasco. Just wait until it starts working and healthy working people realize how much they're going to have to spend to subsidize all the lower-income and non-workers. This is going to be a spectacular disaster.

Comment Energy buybacks have their problems (Score 1) 207

Forcing utility companies to buy back energy will eventually bankrupt any electricity company. It forces all of the expenses of running their entire grid on a smaller and smaller pool of paying customers. Those customers would be businesses and the "renting" poor, and those unlucky enough not to be able to install solar. However, the electric grid as we know it should eventually become obsolete, as alternative energies such as solar take over. It will just be a complicated period of adjustment.

Sure, get a business minor and/or an MBA. Especially if you like the business side of things. I have a minor in business, and got a major in CS. I've been very happy with my education and run a small software business. Or you can teach yourself these things by just reading books and listening to lectures, but that is harder to "sell" on a resume unless you can back it up with job experience...
