We have a landline but never answer it. We let it rollover to the answering machine. During the last two elections the number of robocalls that got recorded by the answering machine jumped to one every other day.

At first reading this blurb I thought, "Ah another concern troll." but when I went to the article it was posted on the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists website. The essay isn't nearly long enough and I don't have time to deconstruct it, but the author does have some valid points to make. I say we need to transition to less destructive and more sustainable forms of energy and transform our lifestyle to using less resources. And we really need to think through the implications of what "renewable energy" really means.

to buy Netflix. I'm not happy about it either. My Netflix viewing habits have changed where I mostly watch streaming. When the raised prices back in December 2010 I dropped from the 3 DVDs at a time to 2. So my price point stayed the same. I'll drop to 1 DVD now because there are still things that aren't streaming.

is the answer. The amount of ignorance in the highly rated comments is astounding. No one understands exponential growth. The simple example is of the water lily and the pond. The water lilies double in number every day and will completely cover the pond in thirty days. At what point do humans notice a problem? On day 29 when the pond is half covered.

Humans are already past the sustainable limit. Now we may come up with new technologies that make the current population sustainable. The Haber-Bosch process allows the Earth we support 2 billion more people than it would otherwise. It would take 6 Earths to sustain everyone at American style standard of living. The future is hard to predict. We have some pretty good ideas of what is likely to happen but how it unfolds may be very different than how we imagined it. With climate change overuse of resources and reduction in biodiversity humanity is potentially heading towards a disastrous collapse. However we have a lot of bright people trying to prevent that from happening. And if food becomes scare, well, we'll always have Soylent Green.

I was hoping these would be hilarious reviews of the Newt "I had a hard on for America so I fooled around" Gingrich's books. I'd love to see Amazon tags on his stuff like there is on Jonah Goldberg's execrable Liberal Fascism. Some of my favorites are "doughy pantload", "books written while high on cheeto dust", and "cheeto-erotic asphyxiation".
