Comment Nintendo peeps (Score 2) 171

Yeah, so Nintendo demoed this already at E3 last year, but I'm sure like everything else, all the fanbois will forget that other people already came up with the cool tech, and Apple is yet again just ripping it off. Somehow, Apple will once again be touted as the most innovative rainbow ponies and gumdrops company ever (I'm sure of it).

Apple Exec Stashed $150,000 In Shoe Boxes 345

angry tapir writes "US federal agents found more than US$150,000 in cash when they searched the house of Apple manager Paul Devine earlier this month, according to prosecutors. 'He had over $150,000 stored in shoe boxes,' Department of Justice Attorney Michelle Kane said. Devine was charged two weeks ago with taking kickbacks from Apple suppliers."

Holy wow...its just like Minority Report! I totally embrace this establishment of the pre-crime division of the US government if I can get some sweet 3-LED-glove-interface things for my 150" wrap around clear display (as long as its not made by Apple). Power to the not-people!

Your Feces Is a Wonderland of Viruses 211

sciencehabit writes "Thanks to an anlaysis of fecal samples from four sets of Missouri-born female identical twins and their mothers, researchers have concluded that human guts harbor viruses as unique as the people they inhabit; the viral lineup differs even between identical twins. Even more surprising? These viruses may be doing good work inside of us."

Growing A House From Meat 133

baosol writes "From the boundary-pushing team of archi-visionaries who brought us the fabulous Fab Tree Hab comes a new (and somewhat disgusting) way to grow a structure — using animal flesh! The In Vitro Meat Habitat is a futuristic concept home composed of meat cells grown in a lab. The creator of the concept, Mitchell Joachim, is a futurist with a twist– he says he is actually developing the concept in a lab."

Since when do you measure SIZE in grams?

...ever since protons traveled at relativistic speeds. In a quantum universe, mass is generally reported since it actually tells you something useful about the particle (namely, it's energy). Physical size (l,w,h, or volume) usually isn't as useful IMHO.

Bluetooth 4.0 Spec Adopted 59

adeelarshad82 writes "The Bluetooth SIG announced the formal adoption of Bluetooth Core Specification Version 4.0, which begins the qualification process for new, low-power devices. Bluetooth 4.0 [zipped PDF of the spec] was formally announced in April, and added a new, ultra-low-power aspect to the short-range personal-area-network technology. According to the SIG, the new 4.0 core specification should allow devices to run on coin-cell batteries for years with a new ultra-low-power duty mode."

Comment More research people (Score 1) 673

Generally, when people can only support an argument with a newspaper article, you'd fund a university to do some baseline research for you to get some data to back up your claim. I mean, this is how pharma, oil, silicon, mining, and many many many other industries work. However, the problem is you have to *pay* a university to do this work thing for you. Since airlines pretty much all charge $15 to check a bag, its unlikely that any airline will ever pay for any kind of research. That would be some common sense long term planning...something that appears to be absent from all current business school textbooks.

I have to second the WDTV Live. I have one of these puppies and it kicks the shizzle out my nizzle - and is truly a geeks solution.

Its pretty much the only box that can handle full on 1080p video in a zillion container formats streamed over your network. It can connect to anything (windows, mac, linux, whatevs) with samba, and can connect with any server that puts out DLNA, so playon and TVersity and whatever will work (to varying degrees) on it too...so, Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, etc. are all in.

It does *not* do web surfing on your TV. I used to have a solution which would do this, and I quickly figured out that it was really rare that I ever wanted to have a full on web browser after I had access to nextflix, hulu, and youtube via a slicker and simpler interface. Its annoying as hell to use a kb and mouse on your couch...especially if you are watching teh pr0n.

Best yet? This solution is sub $200.
